Hi! I have a question about mediation before filing C100. My ex and I can't agree about our son - when he stays with whom, holidays, weekends and all that. I have already started preparing the documents, but they told me that without an attempt at mediation they may not even accept the form. I am confused - is this a mandatory procedure or just a recommendation? And does it really help, or is it just a formality before the court? Tell me if anyone has had any experience.

Hi! I went through this about a year ago, I also had a conflict with my ex about our daughter. I had just moved to Britain then, and it all seemed very confusing to me. At first I thought I would go straight to court, but they explained to me that I should at least try to go through mediation. And, to be honest, it really helped: it's not that we completely reconciled, but we were at least able to draw up a clear schedule, and in the end we didn't even need to go to court. The main thing is that during mediation you talk with a neutral person, it takes the edge off. At first I didn't know where to start, but then I found some useful material that explained both mediation and the form itself well - here, if you're interested: C100 Form . Everything is laid out step by step, it really helped me not to get confused in the papers and deadlines.

It's interesting to read how it all works in practice. Honestly, I thought that such things are resolved either between themselves or through the court. But it turns out that there is also such an "intermediate" stage as mediation. It is clear that it really works for many, and this is cool. It is always better to agree peacefully than to spend months and money on showdowns.
