Thread count refers to the number of threads per square inch (or 10 cm²) of fabric. As an indicator of quality, they are commonly used. In other words, more threads don't necessarily mean more luxury. The number of threads that can fit into a given space is so large that a good-quality sheet will usually have a thread count between 250 and 300.
