"Yuppie 911" strains backcountry rescuers - 0 views

  •
Beyond the growing number of questionable incidences, the article was prompted by the story of a group of hikers in the Grand Canyon that activated their emergency beacon three times over the course of three days! Each time a helicopter was mobilized for a potential rescue.\n\nOn the third mobilization, rescuers finally took the four hikers off the trail and cited the leader for "creating a hazardous condition" for the rescue teams.

  •
For many hikers, a "bucket list" or "life list" just wouldn't be complete unless it included a rim to rim hike across the Grand Canyon. I was fortunate enough to do just that over the Memorial Day weekend in 1996 with three fellow hikers.

Hike to Alaska Basin in Grand Teton National Park - 4 views

  •
In many ways the Alaska Basin has taken on mythical status for those that have explored it, and those that have only heard about it. Unfortunately for day hikers getting there is nearly impossible. However, there is one route that will allow you to explore its beautiful alpine meadows and lakes.
