Inhabited since Roman times, Pisa has an important and glorious past, which reached a period of great splendour when it was one of the four maritime republics, along with Amalfi, Genoa and Venice. Today it is a vibrant and dynamic city and a major university centre.
Positano is one of the most beautiful villages on the Amalfi coast. Settled comfortably between the sea and mountains with the different colored houses built vertically over the slops. Though it was a rich port during the 16th - 17th century, it became a simple, poor fishing village by the 20th century. It started attracting tourists after an essay was written on Positano Village by John Steinbeck in May 1953.
