In 1956, Bob Kane and Sheldon Moldoff decided Batman and Robin both needed female counterparts in order to stave off the gay rumors about these characters and voila Batwoman appeared, aka Kathy Kane (issue #233 in Detective Comics) for Batman and then in 1961 Batgirl, aka Betty Kane (issue #139 in the Batman comics) appeared as a sidekick for Batwoman. When Julius Swartz took over as editor both of these Batwoman and Batgirl characters were taken out and were replaced in 1967 by the Barbara Gordon 'Batgirl' (issue #359 in Detective Comics). But in this lens, we'll have a look at the wonderful actresses who have played 'Batgirl' over the years in the television series, movies and the animation of all the versions of Batman.

In 1938 Action Comics editors was looking for a new comic book superhero similar to Superman, Bob Kane and Bill Finger got together and created that new superhero, Batman! Well according to Bob Kane he had drawn a picture of what he thought the Caped Crusader should look like, however, Frank Foster has a different story. But alas in 1939 the first Batman comic was published and the rest is 'history'. One major difference between Superman and Batman however is the fact that Superman has super powers which comes from his Kryptonian background while Batman is mortal, a simple human being who depends on his 'awesome gadgets'. In this lens we'll look at who's actually played the Caped Crusader over the years on television and the big screen. The Caped Crusader will always be a work in progress, so check back from time to time to see what might be different or if there's a new Batman in the mist.

 Feature Highlight: Highlights Diigo saves the day with "highlights". Highlights let you select the important snippets on a page and store them in your library with the page's bookmark. Let's try it. Just open a page, maybe one of your old-school bookmarks or one of your new cat bookmarks, and find the information on that page you actually care about. Select that important text. Got it? Okay, now put your hemet on, 'cause this might blow your mind! Click the highlight icon on the Diigo toolbar. It's the one with the "T" on a page with a yellow highlighter. You will notice that the selected text gets a yellow background. This means that the text has been saved in your library, and as long as you have the Diigo add-on the text will be highlighted on the page! How's that for easy?   Now you've highlighted the text. It will appear in your library within the bookmark for the page it is on. Go to your library and you can see how it works. Sticky Notes on the Web What? I can put a sticky note on a web page? How? Oh, that's right! Diigo. Just right-click anywhere on the page and choose to "add a floating sticky note". Type up your note and choose "Post", then move the note anywhere on the page. You have to type a note first, before you move it where you want, otherwise there's nothing to move!
