Mangroves - Underwater photography of seahorses, sea dragons, clownfish, coral reefs, f... - 0 views

  •
Far from perfect: The composition of the page itself needs work and having larger versions of the images available would be nice. But we do get to have fun watching the photographer emphasize the fact that this is both a forest and a marine environment, as he shoots his colorful (but not garish) images through the ripples.

Home to the "Sky Islands" - mountaintops high enough to catch the rain, islands of woodland surrounded by the Sonoran desert below. The information you need to somewhere worth visiting. Please bring food that doesn't need to be cooked if you do come to camp, and leave the campfires at home. Wildfires are no small matter in this area; one of them wiped the town of Summerhaven off the face of the earth earlier in this decade.

When Good Lizards Go Bad: Komodo Dragons Take Violent Turn - WSJ.com - 0 views

Changes in behavior following changes in policy instituted on the advice of American environmentalists. The short form would seem to be that the large, powerful animals, accustomed to being fed by humans, came seeking food from them when the gifts ceased, and weren't shy about taking what they weren't given, including the lives and flesh of a few of the local residents.

Dells Witches Gulch Bluffs on Flickr - Photo Sharing! - 0 views

  •
The Dells are, in a way, the Midwestern version of Niagara Falls: somewhere so overrun with tourist kitsch and unpleasant marketing types running the tourist traps, that one is almost embarassed to admit that the area, itself, is very nice to look at, once one leaves some of the unpleasantness behind. I went looking for images of Witches' Gulch that people had uploaded. This is one I found. I'll do some more looking later.

Page talks about the restoration of an ecosystem that is far more endangered in the "Prairie State" and its neighbors than many outside of Illinois might suspect.
