It is used to separate light or cause the beam to be dispersive, and the material is usually glass, crystal, etc. It is widely used in optical instruments. Classification of Optical Prism According to the uses of optical prisms , it can be divided into: 1. Deviation optical prism: let light change direction through a prism, and generally a prism less inclined is called a wedge or thin prism, the achromatic Fresnel biprism can also be used for deflection(no dispersion). 2.Dispersive prism: the refractive prism of a large Angle, mainly used in spectral instruments, the main function is in refraction. 3.Reflecting prism occupies a significant position in the non-dispersive prism, it can change the direction of the light as well as the image shift. Dove prisms are used as reflective prism inverting the image. Dove prism is shaped from a truncated right-angle prism. Normally, dove prisms are used in the parallel optical path based on critical angle principle to meet total internal reflection with limited FOV. A beam of light entering one of the sloped faces of the prism undergoes total internal reflection from the inside of the longest (bottom) face and emerges from the opposite sloped face. Images passing through the prism are flipped, and because only one reflection takes place, the image is inverted but not laterally transposed. A beam of light entering the sloped faces undergoes total internal reflection from the bottom surface, and emerges from the opposite sloped face. Also interestingly whtn dove prisms optical are rotated along longitudinal axis, the image rotates at twice the rate of the prism which have applications in fields such as interferometry, astronomy, and pattern recognition. Elliptical Mirror is still a flat mirror, but the shape is cut into an oval, and the outer circle and the mirror into a 45 ° angle. Penta Prisms are used to define right angles in optical systems. Penta Prisms, which provide right handed images, feature a ray deviation of 90°. Penta Prisms are five-sided prisms and unaffected by slight movements. Edmund Optics offers a variety of Penta Prisms for optimal performance in the Ultraviolet (UV), Visible, or Infrared (IR) spectrums. The Penta Prism will neither invert nor reverse the image. Penta prisms are extremely useful in alignment systems as they define a right angle very precisely and independently of angle of incidence. Rays entering one face emerge from the adjacent face at precisely 90 deg after they have undergone two reflections inside the prism for a total of 270 deg. Hyperion Optics is a parabolic mirror manufacturer and offer custom parabolic mirrors for use from the UV(200 to 400nm) to the IR (1to 40µm) wavebands. Parabolic mirrors are typically designed as a segment of a larger parabola, manufactured from a metal substrate such as aluminum and coated in either enhanced aluminum, silver or gold as a standard. These mirrors focus light similar to a concave mirror with the significant exception being that the off-axis parabolic design redirects the incident light through 90%. Custom mirrors may be manufactured in a range of substrates and alternative coatings as required by our customer's specifications including UV and IR coatings and materials and alternative reflection angles.
