When the contents of a Saudi activist's phone were reviewed by Citizen Lab, a cybersecurity monitoring group that has spent years researching digital dangers, experts immediately determined that it was contaminated. But it wasn't just any virus that had infected the phone. It was infected with the zero-click Pegasus malware from NSO Group, which infects computers without requiring users to click on a link. Before the update is implemented, there's "absolutely nothing you can do to safeguard your phone" with Pegasus, according to Chris Vickery, a self-described data breach hunter.
