"Apple CEO Tim Cook has been in China the past few days meeting with senior officials from both companies and the Chinese government. He has already been spotted at an Apple Store in China, and now Apple has confirmed that Cook went on a personal tour inside of a Foxconn plant. Cook reportedly visited a newly instated iPhone manufacturing section within Foxconn. Foxconn has been the source of many Apple product-production based controversies as of late, and Cook, notably, emailed his staff a lengthy response addressing concerns of worker safety and other topics. After a few days of rumors that it would begin producing iPads in Brazil, Taiwanese company Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn is a subsidiary) has confirmed that it will do just that.

According to Digitimes citing a Shenzhen newspaper, the three Foxconn employees responsible for the iPad 2 design leaks have been charged with leaking to third party Chinese accessory companies.

"Today a local news report from Taiyuan, Shanxi, China has reported that the Foxconn factory in the area is looking to hire 20,000 workers to create the new iPhone specifically. This report from Taiyuan notes that the factory "urgently" seeks this massive amount of new workers to work on their new orders for the production of the iPhone 5. This new device will likely be released this year per patterns laid down by Apple over the past few years with mobile device releases."

Apple is rumored to be finalizing its supply chain plans for this year's anticipated iPhone update, with longtime partner Foxconn unsurprisingly expected to receive the bulk of orders for the new, larger "iPhone 6." Foxconn is expected to build both 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch varieties of the next iPhone, according to Taiwanese tech industry publication DigiTimes.

Some pretty shocking news this evening that an explosion at the Foxconn Chengdu manufacturing facility has killed two people and injured many more. The site is one of the locations where Apple's iPad 2 is built.
