A multitude of apps deliver on this promise, and we've selected nine of our favorite productivity tools. The apps listed below will help you manage your to-dos, track your time, move your files, crunch numbers, organize your searches, and even control your Mac. TidBITS Macs & Mac OS X: Going Deep Inside Xserve Apple Drive Modules - 0 views

  •
About a year ago, we bought an Intel-based Xserve with a pair of 80 GB SATA drives to act as our primary Web server. When the boot drive went flaky on us in October 2008, we were able to recover from the backup on the second drive and off-site backups, if a little shakily (see "TidBITS Outage Causes Editors Outrage", 2008-10-07). But although we were able to bring the machine back online, we didn't trust the drive that had failed. Since the Xserve has three drive bays, the obvious solution was to purchase another drive. Sounds simple, doesn't it? Not so much.

Yet another reason why Macs need security software | Security - CNET News - 0 views

  •
According to the X-Force 2008 Trend & Risk Report (PDF) released early this year, Mac OS X Server and Mac OS X top the list of operating systems with the most disclosed vulnerabilities for 2008. Each accounts for 14.3 percent, and has been in the top five in each of the last three years. Rounding out the top five were: Linux Kernel at 10.9 percent, Sun Solaris at 7.3 percent, and Microsoft Windows XP at 5.5 percent. The purpose of this data is to compare the total number of disclosed vulnerabilities with each individual operating system. Vulnerability data is submitted to the Mitre Corp. and then appears in the CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures) List.

More Evidence of Apple's Massive Marketshare Growth in Higher Education - Mac Rumors - 0 views

  •
The latest computing survey results from the University of Virginia's freshman class show evidence of continued Apple marketshare growth in the higher education market (via Daring Fireball). The chart above shows that Apple has made steady gains since 2003 in the percentage of incoming UVA freshman who own a Mac. The latest year (2008) shows that 37% of incoming students owned a Mac while the percentage owning a Windows computer had shrunk to 62% from a peak of 96% in 2001. The growth tracks closely with the trend towards laptop ownership amongst the Virginia freshman. In 2008, 99% of the incoming students owned a laptop.

Buy Glassdoor Reviews - 100% Non-Drop,Safe, Permanent, Cheap ... - 0 views

  •
Are glassdoor reviews reliable Glassdoor reviews are not a guarantee of job security. They aren't a guarantee of job performance, either-you can get a bad review, even if you're doing great in your current role. And they aren't guaranteed to tell you everything about the company or organization that posted them: some companies might be more transparent than others, while others may hide certain aspects from their employees in order to maintain secrecy (this is common practice). Buy Glassdoor Reviews Glassdoor reviews also don't necessarily reflect what potential employees will find when they start working there; sometimes people say nice things about an employer because they want something from them but have no intention of actually taking it up when they apply for jobs there! In fact, Glassdoor reviews can be pretty misleading because they fail at capturing all aspects related to what makes an organization great as well as how happy its employees feel working there-but this isn't always intentional; sometimes employers just don't care enough about how their workers feel about themselves or their jobs at all! Buying Glassdoor reviews can help you hire great sales and marketing talent. Buying Glassdoor reviews can help you hire great sales and marketing talent. Glassdoor is a trusted source of information about companies, jobs and industries. It's also one of the best places to find out what employees think about their employers and peers in the industry. Apple's patch process a mess, say researchers (Computerworld) - 0 views

  •
September 22, 2008 (Computerworld) Apple Inc.'s patching process proves that the company isn't serious about moving Macs into the enterprise, security researchers said today. One dissenting expert, however, said it was unfair to compare Apple's patching procedures with, say, Microsoft Corp.'s. "You have to evaluate the patching performance of the company if you're looking at Macs," said Andrew Storms, director of security operations at vendor nCircle Network Security Inc. "And the last two weeks hasn't been a gold star for Apple."
