(CNN) -- A Florida mother shot her four children early Tuesday morning before turning the gun on herself at her home in Port St. John, police said. A neighbor heard shots at 4:50 a.m. and then responded to a knock at the door to find three of the children, police said.

Homicide detectives have arrested and preliminarily charged a 14-year-old girl with murder in connection with the stabbing death of her 4-year-old cousin.

A Bonney Lake mother who prosecutors say repeatedly bleached her child's eyes, causing permanent vision damage, was charged Monday with first-degree child assault. Jennifer Mothershead, 29, pleaded not guilty and her bail was set at $150,000. In May 2011, Mothershead's 15-month-old daughter was airlifted from Tacoma to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center after suffering a blow to the head.

EAST TOLEDO -- Police say an East Toledo landlord found a dead infant inside the freezer in one of his properties on Friday. The female corpse was discovered inside the home at 116 Paine St., where renters had just moved out. The landlord was said to be cleaning out the property when he found the body inside a freezer.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City police said a 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with a teenager's slaying last week. Investigators said the teen's death may have been the result of a dispute on Facebook. DeQuan Hawkins was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

A Pennsylvania man was arrested in what Chester County Prosecutor Tom Hogan calls a "cold-blooded, pre-planned killing" of the man's estranged wife, the mother of his four kids, outside a convenience store. James Hvizda is accused of killing his wife Kimberly Hvizda -- who had a restraining order against him -- around 11 p.m.

updated 11:10 PM EDT, Sun March 25, 2012 (CNN) -- A San Francisco man was arrested and charged with murder Sunday, two days after five people were found dead in a residence in that northern California city, police said. The victims were found around 7:45 a.m.

A Philadelphia child is dead and his parents in custody charged with beating and starving the boy to death. Police say 6-year-old Khalil Wimes weighed less than 30 pounds when he died Monday night of blunt-force trauma to the head.

Chicago police believe the drive-by shooting that killed a 6-year-old girl may have been gang related. WMAQ-TV's Christina Farr reports. At least 10 people were killed and 39 others wounded during a bloody weekend in Chicago, police said.

updated 8:17 PM EST, Wed February 8, 2012 (CNN) -- An 18-year-old Missouri resident received a life sentence Wednesday for the thrill killing of her 9-year-old neighbor, authorities said. Alyssa Bustamante received a life sentence for the October 2009 death of Elizabeth K. Olten, according to the Cole County Circuit Court clerk's office in Jefferson City.
