According to the K9 services, "Your mission is clear cut and well defined. The set of philosophies you develop in order to achieve that mission will determine whether you make a beneficial contribution to the role police dogs play in modern law enforcement or whether you become a liability which undermines the good work of many men before you."

The sound of barking, the smell of danger, and the chase of a lifetime. This is what comes to my mind when I think about the K9 unit. The dog's great responsibility in the police unit. According to Christen Adkins,'' Dogs make a perimeter around the area to surround the criminal. Dogs find evidence at a crime scene for the CSI. Dogs chase criminals better than a man because they are faster.'' The importance of dogs in the police unit.
The dogs surround an area that a criminal is holding hostages, threatening to blow up the place, or robbing a store. If the criminal tries to escape then the dogs run and attack them. The criminals would have nowhere to run they would have no escape. When the criminals/criminal comes into view with a gun the dogs would attack. According to the police department, ''If a criminal kills one dog, there would still be more dogs coming along with police officers.'' Dogs could get to the criminal before he can even pull out his gun. Dogs make good perimeters for catching criminals, and for smelling danger.
Dogs are great at smelling for evidence at crime scenes or for drugs. Dogs can help find drugs because of their sense of smell. Dogs can find drugs halfway across a lake, and that's even better than a tracking device. According to the CSI, ''A dog can even find something buried underground at a crime scene.'' One dog can find ten peices of evidence buried underground maybe even more. One dog can even catch a criminal easily better than a tracking device. One piece of evidence could lead a dog to solving the whole case. A dog can smell something all the way from China (Not literally).
Dogs are better at catching criminals than men because they are faster and more agile. A dog is faster than a man and that makes it able to catch criminals. Huskies have the speed and strength of a bull, which make them perfect for choice, but they are impossible to be trained for that kind of responsibility. Dogs can even outrun a car if they're fast enough, and they can dodge bullets unless it is a shotgun. Dogs are more agile than a man they can run and avoid guns way better than any man. Dogs can even be a distraction while the police go and capture the criminals. For instance dogs can run right into a group of criminals while the police walk right through the front door. A dog can run faster to catch criminals than any other normal man ever could.
The great importance of dogs in the police unit. Ask your self; what would the world be without dogs in the police unit? If the K9 unit was put out of commission how would that effect today? If there were no dogs in the police unit how would the police unit find drugs? They would have to use a tracking device. Say so what I don't even care what critics say. Trust me I know it sounds boring to learn about dogs serving our nation. Just saying when you become a cop and you need info about the K9 unit; don't come asking me I would just throw this paper in your face.
