  • iPhone 3Gだと、検索窓をタップして「カレー」と入力するだけでいい。そうすると地図上の該当場所にピンが立つ。ただそれだけで済むのだ。この迅速さをみると、これこそが求めていたデバイスだ、という気分になる。 「カレー」と入力するだけで、地図上にあるカレー屋さんのピンが立つ。で、「＞」をタップすれば店の詳細も表示される。これは便利でなおかつ楽しい。 　地図を指でスクロールさせると、新たに表示された範囲にどんどんピンが立つ。これで捜索範囲を感覚的に広げられる。しかも、店名をタップすると、そこの電話番号が表示されてすぐ電話できるし、サイトを持っていたら店のサイトにすぐアクセスできる。これは超快適。情報はこうやってリンクしていくべきなのだ。 　いやはや、予想以上にいい。ただし、どうも「この店に行く」という経路探索はうまく働かない。日本ではまだ使えないようだ。残念。
  • もうひとつ。現在のところ、GPSの現在地取得がうまく働かないことがある。当然、GPSなので屋外でないとダメで、ソフトバンクの電波をつかまえてないと時間がかかる（逆に言えば、電波が強くて空が見えている場所では、ほんの数秒で現在地がピンポイントで特定できる）のだが、そういった要因とは別に、現在地取得に行ったまま戻ってこないことがある。iPhone 3Gを再起動するとたいていすぐ取得してくれるので、どこかに問題が潜んでいるのかと思う。ファームアップに期待である。

  • iPhoneにはいろいろ不自由があって、世界一自由でオープンなプラットフォームとはとても言えない。 しかし、iPhoneの中の自由と不自由のポートフォリオは、計算されたものであり状況に応じて変化していけるものだ。金になって他に現実的な選択肢が無い所では、アップルはユーザに不自由を強いて金を吐き出させる。金にならない所では、ユーザに自由を与えサードパーティに競わせる。 iPhoneは、「着信機能」や「通信手段の選択」のような他社に真似できない重要なポイントにおいて自由でオープンになっている。そこには多くのサードパーティが参入して、競合しながら新しい応用を切り開いていくだろう。
  • 短期的には、blog.Winding-life.netさんがおっしゃるように「着信機能」の活用から新しいアプリが生まれるだろうし、長期的には、次世代の無線技術の活用において、アップルだけが「管理されてない基地局」を認めるフリーハンドを持つ。たとえば、FONを支援して、キャリアと手を切る(と言って脅す)というオプションがあるだろう。 そして、この自由の度合いをジョブズは意識的にコントロールしていくつもりだと私は思う。少しづつ戦略的に自由を拡大していく。ダウンロード音楽販売の非DRM化も同じ戦略と見ることができる。最終的には完全にオープンソースで完全に自由なプラットフォームになるのだが、セルゲイ・ブブカのように*1そこに到達する時期を意識的に遅らせるのだ。それによってアップルは、長期的にbestでないけどbetterな選択であり続け、えげつなく金を儲けていくのだと思う。

    While we wait, here is a brief video showing the App in action. (It’s high quality, so may take a moment to kick off.)
