While a variety of sources have published a story accusing the iPhone 3.0 software of broadcasting instant messages to random iPhones, in reality this exploit affects only users who have hacked their phone and made it vulnerable.

Apple appears to have finally patched a bootrom vulnerability in the iPhone 3GS which has been used for jailbreaking via the 24Kpwn exploit.

Apple has reportedly begun shipping iPhone 3GS units with a new bootrom, which might help combat hacks enabling installation of unauthorized software. However, iPhone hackers say Apple's new firmware only causes a temporary inconvenience for jailbroken devices, and the handset is still hackable.

The first known worm for Apple's iPhone is spreading on jail-broken iPhones in Australia. The worm takes advantage of the default password for SSH used by many jail-broken phones, and places an image of 1980s pop singer Rick Astley on the device.
