This painting represents hope for the runaway slaves. The slaves are looking at the birds as to go North. The birds represent the hope for those people.

I like this poem because it shows how bad slavery really was and that it was wrong to take peoples "human-hood" away from them. Claude is standing up for himeself and for his people with pride and dignity.

I like this poem because it shows that people arwe free to imagine, but that it is not just a fantasy, that those things can happen in real life. Everything starts with a thought and that's why this poem is so moving.
