This is part of the American Memeory Project. This combines two archival collections from the Nebraska State Historical Society. It has corespondence and photographs that relay a dipcition of settlement life in Nebraska. This is great for the foruth/fifth grade state projects.

There several ways to search the FBI-by category, keyword, site map, and A-Z index. Most of the primary resources are documents from the FBI's files on a variety of people, from Lady Bird Johnson to Michael Jackson. Occasionally, there are things other than documents, like video of 9/11 attack. This site is mainly for grades 6-12 for American history.

Not only does this site have primary sources in text, audio, video, and images, but also, silent movies, archived web pages, historical software, and animation/cartoons. Grades 1-12 could easily find interesting primary sources for their projects. Students will enjoy an occasional old cartoon, like Why We Have Elections, that teaches about the election process, and can be taught about primary sources, too.

This section of America's Story focuses on the Amazing Americans who have helped shape American History.  The people are categorized by their profession or what made them famous.  The biographical information for each person provides an great summary of why they were important, links to more stories, photos, and even a timeline of their life in relation to what was happening in America.  Students begin to learn about specific people in our nation's history in 3rd and 4th grade.  This site would lend itself to exploring more information about these people from the trusted source of the Library of Congress.

National History Day offers primary sources for world history. Students and educators from 5-12 grade can use this site to find information on many regions around the world. Teachers can use the Classroom Connection section to find information that fits into their standards, a repository can be used to find primary resources for specific regions and time periods.

At this site you can find primary-source based activities for grades 1-12 already created or create you own for the teaching of history, historical comprehension, and critical thinking skills. Thousands of documents can also be found using the National History Standards categories.

Choose the topic about 9/11 you want to search for, grade level and subject to find information and primary sources about the September 11 attacks. 

This is a great site to use for primary sources practice. You can work with the activities given or do as I've done and have students compare the information they can get from primary sources versus secondary sources. The set up of the activities in investigation form can be quite appealing for students as well. I think this would be good for 5-12 grade.

The Kids in the House Web site is provided by the Office of the Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives to provide educational information about the legislative branch fo the U.S. government. This site provides activities, resources and lesson plans for students K-12. The grade school section has a segment like the School House Rocks "I'm Just a Bill"

A great resource on Nebraska history from pre-1500 to present day for teachers and students. Lesson plans are geared toward 4th grade. Site includes archival photos, letters, video segments and maps.

Teachers and students are able to find and learn about Nebraska from this website. The time line makes it easy to find information in a chronological order. Photos, letters, video, maps and other formats of information is available. Fourth graders focus on Nebraska History in Social Studies, and this website offers relevant information that they can use outside of their textbooks.

This site integrates global issues & cultural awareness through a variety of learning activities. The site has and educator section that is incredible, it has lesson plans divided by grade level, region and subject area. I really enjoyed the languages section. The Peace Corp Challenge Game was a lot of fun.

Ben's Guide to U.S. Government for Kids provides a basic introduction to the Federal Government. It also is set up in grade levels from K-12 to address specific State Standards. This website makes it easy for students to access information they need on their level.

Great website for elementary students about weather. Many activities to engage students as well as teachers.Stories and games make it a fun site to visit and learn at the same time. It also addresses one of the Nebraska State Standards for Science in 2nd grade. This primary site has a teacher guide for ideas to teach about many different kinds of weather related information.

This site has lots of information about weather. Students can learn about lightning, tornadoes, hurricanes,blizzards, and floods. There are links to safety, games, activities, stories, and more. One of the games is cloud concentration in which students click on cards to find matching clouds. The stories looked very interesting and were all about severe weather.

This site is fun, friendly and easy to navigate. Students can research a topic such as clouds. After students have read about the layers of the clouds they have the options of playing a related game or related activity that could be done in the classroom or at home. Students can learn what makes weather, do activities and learn to predict the weather.

This website focuses on the 1930s and the New Deal which was passed under the F.D.R.'s administration. Using a collection of letters, newspaper articles, photos, and documents, it has autobiographical stories and interviews about living during that time period. For grades 7-12, lesson plans and discussion panels are included in this resource, making it great for an American History class.

The New Deal Network is a website that focuses on the history of The Great Depression. Documents, photos, speeches, and articles can be found for teachers and students to use when researching this era of American History.

This site has many features including podcasts, audio, and video as well as photo, print, and other primary source documents arranged by era. Users can search from the beginning our country to the present. One of the most unique features of the site was the collection Battle Lines: Letters from America's Wars. This section has 5 different categories of letters from soldiers, one from each era. There is a digital copy of the letter as well as an audio recording of the letter. This would be great to use with second language learners or struggling readers since the text is read to the user. Next to the picture there is also a photograph or print from the same era as the letter. A description of the letter's author is also printed next to the letter. A transcript which is easier to read than the original is also available.

This site focuses on original letters and contains audio files from the battlelines starting at the Revolutionary War to the Iraq War. Through these correspondences, a student will be able to have a better understanding of what war is like for the soldiers and their families from daily happenings to major events. Grades 6 +. Photos, print documents, a teachers guide, and a section called "teachable documents" help makes this a great site to help learn about different eras in our nation's history.

LOVE this website.  Letters from most American wars from Revolutionary War to Iraq.   Each letter appears on the screen and includes a recording of the letter read aloud.  Very powerful to hear the types of details soldiers wrote.  Each page also includes information about the solder. 5 categories to choose from with many letters in each.  The categories are enlisting, comforts of home, love, combat, and the end of the war.

At this website, users will find photos, diary entries, patents, and other artifacts documenting the inventions of the Wright brothers. I think that this site could be used by students in grades 4-12. Science and history teachers would find this site most useful. I thought that it was a little easier for younger users to navigate than some of the other sites I have found.

On this website you can search different topics about Nebraska history.  I think this would be very helpful for fourth grade students because they study Nebraska.  

This source provides Nebraska specific resources for individuals.  It offers keyword searchable documents and the database of information is being added to regularly.  It is a dynamic resource on Nebraska history. 

The Holocaust Memorial Center has facinating primary resources which include oral testimonies, art, and photos. This resource provides powerful personal connections between the artifacts and the researcher. Materials would be appropriate for students in grades 6-12 studying the holocaust, history, or comparison/contrast with global current events involving genocide . Educator and student resources are available.

This is a website created by the U.S. Energy Information Administration to educate kids on anything and everything having to do with energy and electricity. It would be a great resource for the sixth grade energy unit. It has a teacher section with activities for classrooms as well.
