The 2010 Haiti Earthquake caused havoc in this small struggling Caribbean nation. I was very shocked by the pictures and videos presented. Death and the face of tragedy was everywhere to be seen. Haitians must be very desperate of their situation as no infrastructure is stable and safe. Moreover, it seems that help was scarce during the incident and little emergency preparation was ready. However, not everything is still lost. As long as humans remains there is still hope. I can but only hope for international aid to save the people who are still alive and provide help for the rebuilding of the city. The presence of the United Nations is paramount in situations like this. I heard that president-elect Barack Obama has promised full support to the Haitian government as well as former president Bill Clinton and George W. Bush compromise themselves in providing financial aid to Haiti. It is very good that the United States take the initiative as a "Big Brother" to help less fortunate nations especially when catastrophic tragedies were to happen. However, the United States has itself damaged and invaded in several occasions Haiti. Thus, the commitment of the US to help Haiti seems trivialized by its past actions. Is the US trying to make reparations to Haiti rather than aiding altruistically to a cause? or Is the United States making a fake image of support? This questions hope into mind with the scandal of US past actions in Haiti. I wonder why would the US need to do such an unmoral action as invading another country for its interests when we are supposedly promoting an exemplary image and freedom in other nations? Would it that the United States had deviated from its original path, or was this always the US true ambitions?
