      Impressive!
  • if I put my ideas online for others to use, I will ask that other teachers give me credit for my work using a website like creativecommons.org.
    • Hae Young Kim

      Good idea!!
  • Open source software has many advantages. Not only is it free, but it is also available to all teachers, and can be tailored to meet the needs of a specific classroom.
    • Jeremiah Corsi

      Really cool point!

  • It was fun to think of the kinds of things I would put into a newsletter for elementary students.

  • navigate.
    • Hae Young Kim

It would be great if you provide the design principle of the chapter and criticize features of the website based on them.
  • I could use this resource to give my students a consistent place to look up information for use on papers or book reports,
    • D'Evelyn Wymore

That's a wonderful idea! More than anything, it seems our kids need consistency. Giving them multiple sites to keep track of can overwhelm them.
  • I definitely can see myself using this program in my classroom to make flowcharts, concept maps, and to present ideas to my students. I can’t wait to be a teacher!
    • D'Evelyn Wymore

I know that feeling! I definitely feel like this class is preparing me specifically to be a teacher rather than just on how to use technology.
    • Hae Young Kim

      Yeah~
  • That way they could include some information about him in their book report.
  • YouTube is incredibly useful for viewing useful and instructional videos
    • Hae Young Kim

on the other hand, Youtube can be dangerous for viewing inappropriate videos..
  • therwise, I think that teachers should be extremely careful with Twitter, as there are many Twitter accounts that are not suitable for kids to follow, and they are easily accessible.
    • Hae Young Kim

      This is very true.
  • Cosmeo
  • check the author and copyright if I am using the site for a paper. I am careful to check the reference for accuracy if I use Wikipedia
    • Hae Young Kim

I would not use Wikipedia as reference unless the content was written by a renown author.
  • ps, and to present ideas to my students. I can’t wait to be
  • Finally, partners could create a small presentation of their own using their result
    • Hae Young Kim

      Very good!
  • If a teacher uses them effectively, they can definitely be worth the trouble and effort.
    • Hae Young Kim

      Agreed!
  • focus more and learn better by seeing
  • tudents’ attention through visual aids
  • the attention of students who are hands-on learners.
  • if students are busy taking notes based on the slides,
    • Hae Young Kim

Honestly, I do not like taking notes from teachers' ppt. You can provide 'printed' ppt with lines so students can add important points per slide but not take notes for the whole content of a slide.
  • if I am teaching in a third-world country.
    • Hae Young Kim

Wow~ ... But, in the USA, you need to think about digital divide issues.  Read two articles.  http://sfist.com/2013/01/29/digital_divide_wifi_mcdonalds.php   http://www.takepart.com/article/2013/02/13/not-loving-mcwireless

  • I plan on using technologies like this to keep my students turning in genuine work.
    • Hae Young Kim

How would you deal with these concepts as a teacher, developing your own instructional materials and having students who may use other sources to create their own works (listen to the podcast on this topic to find out more!)

    • Hae Young Kim

      I think so too. :-)
  • Prezi very easy to navigate and learn how to use
    • Hae Young Kim

I strongly recommend you to use Prezi. It looks easy but you need to spend some times to learn the features of Prezi. Also, you need a different strategy to present your work using Prezi (e.g., presentation using powerpoint)
  • however, I completely saw how I could utilize this program in my own classroom and teaching career.
    • Hae Young Kim

      I love this!!
  • what a wiki actually is and how it can be fully utilized.
    • Hae Young Kim

Wiki is an web application that everyone can edit the content.  So, When you create a wiki page, your group or collaborators should be able to contribute to the content creation.  That's why this wiki-project was done as group activity.   In order to increase your understanding, you can create a wiki page (for your group works). And invite your group members to your wiki page. Then create a project/group work using wiki. After everyone contributes the group work, you can check the history log to see each member's contribution.

      Isn't it 'create domain'?
  • I used to have the misconception that making a website would be very difficult and time consuming but now I understand the basics and will be able to take the skills I developed to make this tool available for my future students

    • Hae Young Kim

      I like this very much!
  • students will not pay attention in class because they will be able to “get the notes later online

    • Hae Young Kim

I think you did a great job! :-)
  • younger kids I probably won’t have much use for this
    • D'Evelyn Wymore

You can keep a list of the books you use for storytime and open it up for parents so they can know what their children are reading and at what levels they are progressing so parents can collaborate with you. :)
  • However when the material would seem questionable on the Internet I would check several other sites to verify that the fact was true or check in a book for accurate information.
    • Hae Young Kim

I think this is useful. However, sometimes people use or present same wrong information in the website. so.. it is important to check the author (who is the most influential person in that area? and check the author's work)

  • a little over the heads of elementary school kids.
    • Hae Young Kim

please describe why. What features of web 2.0?
  • I tended to use the same search strategies over and over again.
  • I think its really time consuming considering how small the task was supposed to be
    • Hae Young Kim

how you can improve it next time? Wiki involves collaboration. How would you change the process so that you (or students) would satisfy?
  • white slides and completely fill them with notes in like twelve point font.
    • Hae Young Kim

Oops.. def, it must be boring...
  • who have lower incomes don’t always have access to things like computers and cellphones.
  • I feel like most kids today still end up figuring it out one way or another
  • Kids always seem to be able to keep up with the newest trend.
    • Hae Young Kim

Some kids.  But we should remember that there will be students who do not have parents (both or one) with little knowledge with tech and money... So, in that case, you may guide them to do their homework (use public library ..etc)

    • Hae Young Kim

      I couldn't agree more.  :-)
  • I highly doubt I would ever use in my middle/high school English classroom.
    • Hae Young Kim

Maybe not for your lesson. But as a teacher, you need to manage students' scores and report the results. Or you need to create grading books for your personal use.  Let's see what we can do.

  • In high school people who plagiarized got penalized for it. Also students need to cite their sources whenever they use it. Teachers have to make up their own material for tests or exams, but they can borrow some material. I don’t know if teachers cite their sources, but I do know that some teachers do not.
    • Hae Young Kim

How would you deal with these concepts as a teacher, developing your own instructional materials and having students who may use other sources to create their own works (listen to the podcast on this topic to find out more!).
  • assignment.
    • Hae Young Kim

A paragraph on your views about using the Internet to support student research. When is it useful? Not useful? Look to Chapter 3 for ideas and inspiration. I cannot find this paragraph :(
  • inspiration
    • Hae Young Kim

Inspiration is a tool to help you represent your mental model of a concept (causal effect or showing logical relationship between nodes). I would recommend you to look at more examples within your subject (elementary, math, social studies, science) and you will find educational benefits of inspiration.

  • little group activities
    • Hae Young Kim

for what? What skills you want to teach via 'group activities? The first paragraph should state:  how you might use PowerPoint to support student learning at each knowledge dimension in a particular lesson. Be explicit in your example!  What are 'knowledge dimensions?' (hint: Bloom's taxonomy) Then, think a specific lesson (teaching science lesson?) After that, state how you would use powerpoint to teach each knowledge dimension for the lesson.

Education Through My Eyes - 2 views

  • I do not believe computers need to be integrated in every subject area thou,
    • Hae Young Kim

Why do you think? You need to give reason/experience/example to support your claim.
  • clearly.
    • Hae Young Kim

When you write a blog journal, you should integrate what you've learned/read from textbook (using terminologies used by the book, bring a question or answer the question, providing reason if you agree (or do not agree) with a specific point, etc... I hope this comment will help you to write future blog journals.
  • I would make sure students had a handout to help them when they are outside of the classroom working on any assignments, this handout would hopefully help with an confusion.

same! It will be so helpful in the future
  • Doing the newsletter was a easy way to address all the parents with a general overview of what was going on in the classroom
    • Katie Silcox

This is true, plus it looks like you were able to fit a lot of info in the newsletter!
  • Especially because I want to teach history and since it is impossible to know every detail of every event, I want to utilize open content so that I can learn more about the topic
    • Katie Silcox

I hope to use it for the same- I love that there are so many different places to look for historical info.

    • D'Evelyn Wymore

I mentioned this in my blog as well. I'm a big component of Google Scholar. :)
  • I can improve by doing the step by step tutorial and actually figuring out everything before I start using the software.
    • D'Evelyn Wymore

I didn't even think about using the tutorials, but that is actually really smart... I'm so accustomed to figuring it out on my own that I forget that there are manuals and instructions for everything. XD
    • Hae Young Kim

Yeah.. Didn't I mention about using tutorials? My bad! Using tutorials is a very smart idea. I always look for Tutorials when I need to learn something new.
  • between the ages of 4-10 they still benefit more when they are learning hands on then being lectured.
    • Hae Young Kim

This is true. But, the concept of 'hands on activity' can be changed. For example, if you teach 'Hail', what would you do? There are many situations where you cannot use 'hands on' or real things when you teach some concepts. Also, your kids will have digital textbooks.

  • Since teachers (or people in general) cannot know everything about technology, this can provide an opportunity for students to become the teachers; whether it be to the teacher herself or to their peers. It would be great if you provide which rules the website followed or not. And criticize the website based on the design principle of the chapter.

A paragraph on how you might use PowerPoint to support student learning at each knowledge dimension in a particular lesson. Be explicit in your example! You need to find 'knowledge dimensions (hint, Bloom's Taxonomy). Then choose a specific topic you want to teach. Then show me how you use powerpoint to teach each knowledge dimension for the lesson.

Is it right or wrong to do? if yes, why or why not?  Should we believe information provided by Wikipedia or google?
    • Katie Silcox

I think we can trust the sources on Wiki if they've been verified.
  • I would ensure that my students did the same
    • Hae Young Kim

How can you ensure that? Are you going to teach the rule explicitly?
    • Katie Silcox

I think I would try to- taking points off of papers without proper citation and sources.

    • Hae Young Kim

You can certainly use wiki for your group works in other classes too.  If you need a group work, set a wiki page and invite your members. Then, work collaboratively. You can check the history log for each member's contribution (edit, remove, add, etc)

Inspiration is totally different from Photoshop. The main purpose of Inspiration is to promote your logical thinking through visualizing your mental models.  Or when you want to find causal-effect relationships in a complex problem, drawing visual maps should be useful for students and teachers too!

  • I was taught that if you use someone else’s thought, even in paraphrase, you cite them as a reference.

I know it is not easy to do it by yourself.  But, you can do it certainly.  1. Create 'wiki-page'  2. Develop a web evaluation form.  3. Choose a website and evaluate the site based on the evaluation form that you developed.

Yes, there are some people who believe the value of open source/information. :-)  And... how about the open course? Harvard university provides open courses (surely free). Do you think people will learn better or less if open courses are available? Why or why not?  https://www.edx.org/
