What an interesting blog posting, Red. Very informative and practical.
I had never heard before of barcamps. Barcamps are quoted on this blog as being " informal learning events" and "hubs where professionals show up, demonstrate something they have learnt and make connections that they sustain online even after the events". That sounds like an awesome way to learn and connect to me.
Ji Joanne, barcamps are youth organized events where they meet, sometimes for a few days, to discuss technology based questions particularly in the context of their social setting. All the organizers and presentors are not paid. In the case of my friend, he goes around SouthEast Asia talking to young and technologically savvy (albeit not necessarily having the newest equipment) and he teaches them on how to connect to youths of other countries so they can learn together, as a network. Cool, huh?!?
