Cover song from Xylina Spathia [Στον Βράχο] by Marlia project OK so my performance at HUG - Hungarian Handpan & Worldmusic Gathering in Hungary 2019 was over and people wanted one more song. The stage manager said no. Szombathelyi Patrik from HUG stepped in and asked him to do one more song. Hernán Suárez Music was already on stage on calabash and percussion. Patrizio Castrovinci was already playing flute and hulusi with me in the previous song, along with Vértes Marcell who improvised on trumpet with us. I asked them to stick around on stage with me, although they had not heard the song ever before and this is result of our improvisation. Towards the end there is an impromptu moment when I decide to join the crowd off-stage and so you cannot hear the guitar & voice at this point because I took the cable out, finally leading to my return on stage and closing of the song and the performance. VOICE ACTIVATION workshop Tauranga, New Zealand March 2019 We come together in a circle. We enter a meditative practice, "The Yoga of Sound", exploring the inner workings of the Voice. Gradually we start to sing with grace and tune in. The idea of this cover song is to mix the traditional Bulgarian 5/8 song about Gyura who goes down to the river with the Medicine song by Rising Appalachia, which is actually a reggae-style song, "honoring the traditions of folk medicine; plant-based medicine as a tool for empowerment and healing. It is a call to action to support the voices of the herbalists, healers, and teachers… the roots, plants, trees, and stones… the arts, the spirits, and the wild ones. It is an honoring of all the many ways that we can be well, and the radical and traditional ways in which we can steward health within ourselves. This song is a direct tribute to the people around the world who are holding and teaching these ways of herbal plant-based medicine, educating us all to know our gardens, our forests, our plants and our own bodies... to bring wellness back into our own hands and communities. This track has been recorded in a single track, single recording, outdoors in the guesthouse's rooftop where I stayed in Varanasi, India last December 2018. The handpan is a Cm SpaceDrum belonging to my dear friend Benjamin Andersen. There are sounds & noises within the track from the buzz of Varanasi; I have not attempted to clear the track from the monkeys, the builders next door or my friend's mobile phone ringtone! I have only added some effects, such as rotor sound and delay to the existing handpan's natural sound. The whole 20-minute-long song is an improvisation inspired by life and music in Varanasi. Greetings to the family! After making the decision to fulfil my current 4-month-long Indian/Asian/NZ tour without any other instrument but my voice, this is what I could come up with during my very-much-indeed musical stay in Pai, Thailand, right after the PanSiam gathering 2019. In one of our days there with Leon Christian Karmameleon, between open mics, music performances, singing workshops, private vocal lessons, bonfire circlesinging, spontaneous street/stage improvising, scooter riding and hot spring indulging, we met Tommaso Caenazzo (the owner of this handpan @432hz) at our favourite chai shop and thought we could work a bit on 11/8, plus instrument plus voice! There is a much better video version with regards to the quality of music & sound, however this one is hilarious - at least to me! - so I decided to post this one. This video was shot just once with 2 simultaneous cameras and a Zoom Q2N recorder, improvising with instruments such as guitar, handpan Annaziska C#, shruti box, percussion, chimes, bells, natural sounds and the Voice. I am also using Boss RC202 for loops and effects, Freeze by Electroharmonix, Delay by TC Electronics and Analog Tremolo & Reverb pedal by Strymon, as I wish to recreate long, sustained sounds from the guitar. Next time you have 40 minutes, connect a good pair of speakers or headphones to your device, sit back and enjoy the journey. On 23rd December 2018, a group of friends & strangers, students & teachers, Europeans & Indians, got together for an experimental, sacred, high-energy JAMily concert at a vegan restaurant in Varanasi, India. This is an excerpt of our language of music! At minute 7, on a totally different context, I was inspired to lay down some vocals with lyrics from the Cypriot traditional song "Ela korou na doume ta mavra sou ta mathkia". The video includes our journey from the guesthouse to the venue with our instruments and our smiles, through holy Ganga river! Besides our Indian Classical Music studies with our masters during our stay in Varanasi that month, we were inspired to put forward a methodological tool, called THE ELEMENT KEY SYSTEM, which is essentially a sign language for musicians to use in order to conduct one another while improvising with music; and expanded to applications to life itself!
