Toy Chest (Online or Downloadable Tools for Building Projects) - UCSB English Departmen... - 0 views

  •
The EDKB Wiki is a database that makes available the various interests, talents, and resources of the English Department community. See the Main Page to learn more about the EDKB. The wiki does not offer information on current course offerings, nor is it a comprehensive archive of materials related to all past courses. Visit the English Department home page for this type of information. "Toy Chest" collects online or downloadable software tools/thinking toys that humanities students and others without programming skills (but with basic computer and Internet literacy) can use to create interesting projects. Most of the tools gathered here are free or relatively inexpensive (exceptions: items that are expensive but can be used on a free trial basis). Also on this page are "paradigms"--books, essays, digital projects, etc.--that illustrate the kinds of humanities projects that software thinking tools/toys might help create.

2¢ Worth » Technology-Transformed Learning Environments - 0 views

  • What I would look for is a learning experience where the learner is propelled by continually encountering barriers, asking questions, coming to understand the barriers, and solving his or her way through them.

Inquiry-based research is so important to create a personal investment by the student in the process.
  • The learning experience compels a personal investment by the learner and contributes to the learner’s identity.  The learning work should result in value, either value to the learner (increased self-value) or in an end product that is of value to others.

12 Most Important Things to Know about Kids Today | 12 Most - 4 views

  •
Ask most people what comes to mind when they think about "kids today". If you've sampled the literature about Gen Y or The Millennials, you're likely to hear that kids today are over-corrected, entitled, arrogant, irresponsible, directionless, and apathetic. With twitter-sized attention spans-these kids lack values, character, and basic civility. They have been labeled, tagged, earmarked, and characterized in a multiplicity of ways, but nothing sets them apart more from other generations than the fact that kids of today are most certainly unlike any other generation of kids we have known. As a veteran educator, parent, and mentor; I couldn't agree more. Kids today aren't like they used to be, and I've never been more proud or excited to share with you why.
