I use a $25 usb plug in fan for my new laptop and it works like a champ, very quiet too. Bought it at Best Buy. The only complain I have is that in the winter my lap gets too cold so I have to put a throw blanket over my legs but other than that it's cheap air conditioning in the summer. ________________________________ From: educators-bounces@lists.secondlife.com [mailto:educators-bounces@lists.secondlife.com] On Behalf Of dominic smith Sent: Friday, February 27, 2009 6:05 AM To: SL Educators (The SLED List) Subject: Re: [SLED] urgent advice needed Ill second the under laptop fan issue. I did indeed fry the motherboard on my hovercraft (laptop) d On 27 Feb 2009, at 10:56, Allen Partridge wrote: If you use a laptop for anything 3D consider an underlaptop fan a MUST. You'll fry your laptop without it. Belkin makes the best one I've found - its curved white thing that elevates and fans with a USB connector. It has a couple design flaws - bad flippy stand and plug design in the first version - but I got a second one the other day and they seem to have fixed that problem. It's a little noisy, but drops laptop temp unbelievably well. I run Vista on my MacBook Pro - the openGL version of SL on Mac is far slower. I tried running in an emulator - its way too frustrating for 3D. So I switched to BootCamp with a dual boot - and that's a nice solution, great hardware and the speed of DirextX / Vista is a solid solution. Hope that helps, Allen From: educators-bounces@lists.secondlife.com [mailto:educators-bounces@lists.secondlife.com] On Behalf Of dominic smith Sent: Friday, February 27, 2009 4:41
