NISHANT "NEAL" PATEL assumed the chairmanship of AAHOA Friday as the culmination of the association's 2022 Convention & Trade Show in Baltimore, Maryland. NewcrestImage has opened a Hyatt Place in Amarillo, Texas, the company's fourth hotel in the city. The 91-room, four-floor hotel is the second property of a three-hotel, 300-room 'hotel campus' located at the I-40 Frontage Road and South Soncy Road intersection. The first property of the hotel complex, a 90-room Tru by Hilton, was opened in August 2018 and a 90-room Aloft by Marriott is scheduled to begin construction by mid-year of 2020. "We offer travelers three distinctive hotel experiences and styles at a single, high-visibility, high-traffic location," said Mehul Patel, Chairman, and CEO of NewcrestImage. The company owns and operates two other properties in Amarillo's downtown area, a 107-room Courtyard by Marriott in the historic Fisk Building and a 226-room Embassy Suites directly across from the Amarillo Civic Center complex.

The adaptive reuse project, owned and developed by Hume Development, Inc., repurposed the former Eastern Star Hall located at Sacramento's art, music and cultural scene. According to the statement, the Romanesque Revival-style building first opened in 1928 as a Masonic women's meeting place and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The renovation included the redevelopment of five floors within the original structure, keeping the major architectural features of the historic building intact. "The Hyatt House Sacramento/Midtown is the perfect marriage of the classic and the contemporary, providing the latest amenities and services in a setting that draws heavily from its nearly century-old history to provide a uniquely Sacramento experience," said Amanda Hawkins-Vogel, chief operating officer at Twenty Four Seven Hotels. "This hotel is an extension of our presence in Northern California and marks our first opening this year with two more to come in 2023. As the newest hospitality offering in the city, we expect the Hyatt House Sacramento to quickly take its rightful place as the segment and market leader for business and leisure travelers."

A JOINT VENTURE between NewcrestImage and Hospitality Capital Partners recently acquired 16 hotels for $137.3 million from Service Properties Trust, a Massachusetts-based REIT. The deal includes a total of 2,155 rooms in nine states. The portfolio consists of 13 Courtyard and three Residence Inn hotels by Marriott hotels, which are in Georgia, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia. Eleven of the properties underwent major renovations between 2018 and 2019, the company said in a statement. "This transaction suits our company's style of strategically acquiring properties with strong fundamentals, especially during times of a difficult or slowed down economy," said Mehul Patel, managing partner and CEO, NewcrestImage. "It's an opportunity for our joint venture with NewcrestImage to add revenue immediately, while also growing long-term profit potential and asset value," said HCP principals Keith Mishkin and Primo Parmar. The transaction was handled by Al Calhoun and Mark Fair at CBRE in Atlanta. "Closing this transaction was particularly satisfying given the size of the deal and the challenges we're facing in the debt markets," added Al Calhoun, vice chairman with CBRE Hotels in Atlanta. "We were able to complete this transaction by breaking it up into three deals with three different lenders. These lenders had great confidence in the sponsorship and the quality of the brands and markets."

CHIP ROGERS, PRESIDENT and CEO of American Hotel & Lodging Association, is joining the cast of a magazine-style television series "Hotels ByDesign." The program's host Mike Chapman will showcase up to 35 hotels across the U.S. throughout its four half-hour episodes. Rogers will be part of a panel of architectural, innovation and industry experts who will discuss key design aspects of various hotels, AHLA said in a statement. The historical building recently underwent a multi-year renovation. Edgewater is led by founding partners Ketan Vora and Robert Brier. Originally built in 1892, the 53-room, the five-story Victorian-style Windsor features a tower and turret, balconies, and a three-story open atrium lobby, according to Choice. It occupies nearly an entire city block and was the site of numerous balls and celebrations. The Windsor closed in 1972 and underwent extensive renovations in 1991, 2010 and most recently in 2019. Nearby attractions are The Plains Depot, the Jimmy Carter Peanut of Plains statue, Civil War prison Andersonville National Historic Site and the Drummer Boy Civil War Museum. Former President Jimmy Carter and his wife spent the night at the hotel in 2002. Hotel amenities include a fitness center, two on-site restaurants and bars and a veranda.

The Hiatus Clearwater Beach, Curio Collection by Hilton is now open in Florida. 3H Group Inc., led by Hiren Desai as president and CEO, is the owner of the property, while hotel management firm LBA Hospitality will manage the operations of the beachside hotel. The 88-room boutique-style hotel is the first Curio property to join the LBA portfolio and expands the partnership between LBA Hospitality and owner/developer 3H Group, the companies said in a joint statement. "In January 2022, when LBA took over management of the 3H portfolio of hotels, I thought I would take a little break," said Desai. "I told my family and colleagues I was going to take a little hiatus, and they had different ideas in store for me. My brother, Nick Desai-also a co-owner of 3H Group-said, 'You can take a hiatus, but take it in Clearwater Beach.'" New York City-based Celano Design Studio Co. designed The Hiatus' interior, the statement added.
