Randy British holiday makers risk facing arrests and fines by not checking out local laws, a recent study has found. British nationals being charged with indecent public exposureThe research was conducted by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) who advise that Brits embarking on holidays in popular destinations like Egypt and Corfu should be aware of the different laws that apply. "In Corfu, there have been various cases of British nationals being charged with indecent public exposure for 'mooning', often at local police," the FCO told TravelMole.com. The study found that many women sunbathe topless, ignorant of the laws and customs of the land. Half of the women interviewed in the FCO study had no idea if their actions were against the law of not. More rambunctious activities would carry stricter actions as experienced by the British couple who were arrested after having sex on a beach whilst on holiday in Dubai. The FCO added: "Problems do often spring from Brits visiting countries with unfamiliar laws and customs and falling foul of the law without even realising they have done anything wrong." Some of the laws that may lead to Brits facing the long arm of the law, include the illegality of homosexuality in Morroco and Goa. In Abu Dhabi it is even illegal to kiss in public. Travellers should also be aware that different parts of countries may have different laws. For instance Sharm el Sheikh is somewhat more lenient than other parts of Egypt, so holiday makers should be careful to adhere to local rules. CONTACTLESS CHECK-IN TECHNOLOGY firm Virdee is now integrated with commerce technology platform FreedomPay. The companies will offer a PCI-validated, point-to-point encryption solution with EMV, NFC, currency conversion and real-time data capabilities. The transition will help Virdee to offer end-to-end protection for credit card payments made through FreedomPay's cloud-based payments platform. It also provided FreedomPay compatibility with Virdee's check-in/check-out process with software for identity verification, payment collection, access control and remote support, according to Virdee. "Our integration with Virdee offers our customers expanded options, flexibility and, most important, security," said Chris Kronenthal, president of FreedomPay. "We help streamline and simplify complex payment options, while providing a single flow of data to facilitate consumer insights and engagement for our hotel clients. TRAVELERS IN 2022 will prioritize reunion and reconnection as the pandemic separated families and friends, according to a report by Hilton. The pandemic has led to several other changes as well, the report found. This year, travelers are expected to care more about sustainability and community efforts, according to Hilton's "The 2022 Traveler: Emerging Trends and the Redefined Traveler" report. They also are looking to remain loyal to brands, companies and organizations that align with their values, according to the report. "People have embraced efficiencies in many aspects of life and will be looking for similar conveniences in their travels, like contactless check-in and check-out and digital keys. With a reimagined workplace and new routines and habits in place, travelers will be looking for more grounding and balance in their travel schedules," the report said. New and refreshed hobbies are leading to a more informed, sophisticated, and, in some cases, in-shape 2022 travelers, the report said. This trend is expected to drive demand for new fitness and culinary options, as well as unique travel experiences.

NEWCRESTIMAGE HAS OPENED its first Canopy by Hilton upscale hotel in north Dallas. The Canopy is part of Frisco Station, a four-brand, 600-room "lifestyle hotel campus" developed by the company. The 150-room, seven-floor Canopy joins the first two hotels, an AC Hotel and Residence Inn dual-brand with 150 rooms each that opened in 2019. The fourth hotel, a 150-room Hyatt Place, currently has no scheduled date for start of construction. "The opening of this Canopy symbolizes the story of hospitality's comeback around the country and around the world," said Mehul Patel, chairman and CEO of NewcrestImage. "Our company's commitment to serve travelers is not a victim of coronavirus, and we have many hygiene procedures in place so guests can feel safe, comfortable, and special." Some of those procedures include disinfecting guest luggage on arrival; using technology to reduce physical interaction between guests and staff during check-in and check-out; and improving the hotel's HVAC system to prevent spread of microbes and virus.

"Our focus is really, first and foremost, creating programs that franchisees aren't mandated to participate in, but have the opportunity to opt into," said Geoff Ballotti Wyndham's president and CEO. "Opting into a program like our most opted into program, Signature Reservation Service, allows them to not just drive $22,000 on average of incremental revenue at $1,000 cost, which is why 4,500 of our 6,000 us franchisees have opted into that. They haven't been mandated to sign up for the service, but they know it just makes a whole lot of sense."

The Tru by Hilton Mooresville marks Maya Hotels' fourth hotel investment in Mooresville in the last 25 years, with a fifth hotel set for completion in the third quarter of this year.

VIRDEE, THE CONTACTLESS check-in technology firm, secured $12.4 million in an oversubscribed Series A funding round led by Moneta Ventures, bringing its total funding to $21 million. These funds will be used to finance research, expand product features, grow the workforce, and strengthen the company's presence in the hospitality sector, the company said. Other participants in the latest fundraising process include Silverton Partners, Koch Real Estate Investments, Alumni Ventures, DJR Advisors, Capital Factory, and strategic partners, Virdee said. Now, the company is moving into the "premium economy" segment with its new brand, Spark. Spark will include several features meant to appeal to owners, according to Hilton, primarily by providing the company's reservation network, business model and commercial engines. It also includes supply chain management, a cost-effective pricing model and automated customer offerings such as digital check-in and Digital Key. "Spark by Hilton was developed in close collaboration with our developer community, and we are thrilled by the positive feedback and excitement we have received to date," said Alissa Klees, brand leader, Spark by Hilton. "In fact, we already have more than 100 deals in various stages of development across the U.S., with the first properties anticipated to open this year." Each hotel will feature colorful exterior walls and artwork. The public space will feature multi-functional seating, such as communal tables and rocking chairs, for guests to eat breakfast, socialize or work throughout the day. Guest rooms will have practical amenities, including an open closet, in-room refrigerator, multi-purpose work surface and bathroom. To ensure a consistent, quality guest experience, each hotel will be required to complete a full renovation, encompassing all guest-facing areas of the hotel, prior to joining Spark by Hilton.
