Music From Japan - 0 views

Contrasting the other article on modern Japanese music, there are some musical traditionalists who honor the cultural styles that were prevalent decades before. However, instead of using the same instruments passed down several generations, there seems to be an emergence of Western, orchestral and symphonic instruments being thrown into the ensemble, offering a richer sound that has been prized at annual music festivals. This is an expression of tradition being honored, but also "upgraded" with the assimilation of other voices in the music.

Japanese musics past 1990 has lessened the the focus on traditional orchestrations of imi uta, and other older types of Japanese music. Global Voices Online » Africa: Is Homosexuality a Religion? - 0 views

  •
Cameroon is a site where homosexuality has become a societal issue. A French-based blogger from the country states that homosexuality is potentially viewed as some kind of heretic religion. There is a prominent presence of homophobia in Cameroon; this is taken from the example of a mayor having two gay men arrested for asking him if they could marry at City Hall. The controversy only continues with a widely viewed news resource publishing a list of "resumed" homosexuals; also there are established legal proceedings for the country's perceived crimes of homosexual behavior. This country is delving into the issue as it struggles with this seemingly foreign, cultural approach.

Global Voices Online » Angola: The assassination of a ruling party MP - 0 views

  •
There is a disturbance in Angola after the assassination of MPLA parliamentarian Beatriz Salucombo, and her brother António Neves, who was an SME (Migration and Foreigners Services) officer. They were both shot outside Salucombo's home by a young group of three assassins. It is believed that the perpetrator(s) of the killings consists of adult crime leaders who hire young people to carry out their handiwork. A blogger responding to this incident asks a comparative question: "Which is the greater crime? Taking the roofs from over the heads of 15,000 Angolans in need, or taking the lives of two privileged Angolans?" Given the circumstances, it is assumable that whoever orchestrated these assassinations had been discontent with their lifestyle in Angola, owing it to its leaders.
