KnowledgeWorks Foundation and the Institute for the Future (IFTF) are pleased to present the 2006-2016 Map of Future Forces Affecting Education. Created by a range of experts and analysts, the map is a forecast of the future, and each element on the map represents forces that could affect learning in the next decade. Many of these forces can work in tandem, and they could also appear seemingly unconnected. Nothing is definite. We don't encourage debating with the forecast, but rather encourage you to explore the map, think about what you've seen, and use the map and its interactive features for group and online discussion. Think of the map as a catalyst for conversation.

WHAT We offer EXPLORE YOUR FUTURE is an interactive website for job and career exploration targeted to teenagers and young adults in middle school through college and the mentors who advise them. OUR WORLD is a film series highlighting a broad spectrum of careers within one or more industry clusters.

This blog has two main themes: one is mathematics and the other is multimedia. The mathematics part will discuss ideas behind mathematical concepts from elementary to undergraduate topics. For now, I will be concentrating on discussing mathematics concepts from Grade 6 through Grade 12, although, from time to time, I might post topics in lower or higher levels. The multimedia part will discuss the use of different media such as text, graphics, sounds, video and animation in teaching mathematics. I will refer readers to multimedia and Web 2.0 teaching resources that can be used in teaching and learning mathematics, and I will discuss how-to tutorials on the use different software, particularly freewares. Unfortunately, most software that will be discussed in this blog are only limited to Windows platform, although many software nowadays are already cross-platform, so Linux and Mac users are invited to check the tutorials from time to time. Hopefully, I would be able to discuss software with other platforms in the future.

A child's ability to become a strong reader is the single greatest key to his/her future educational success. For 9 months of the year, teachers and parents work tirelessly to acquire and improve their students'/child's reading skills only to take a 3-month summer break before moving to the next grade level. During this time, many students are preoccupied with summertime play and often lack the discipline to continue to build or even maintain their acquired reading level through daily reading, often resulting in summer reading loss/setback. Readers Are Winners, Inc. is a non-profit literacy organization with the mission of creating reading events, motivating elementary children to become strong readers, and rallying organizations on behalf of reading.

Why should I upgrade to Teacher 2.0? To this I have five major answers: 1) Because most of your students are upgraded 2) Because the curriculum asks you to 3) Because it will help you 4) Because you are supposed to prepare for and educate the future. "Before Web 2.0, when you discovered a really good website, you bookmarked it in your browser so that you could quickly visit it again in the future. This worked well for the most part. However, a couple of problems arose with this method of bookmarking. When you bookmarked a site on one computer, it was only available on that specific computer. Change computers, and you lose your bookmarks. Another problem with this method of bookmarking is that you couldn't easily share your bookmarks with other people. And other people couldn't share their bookmarks with you."
