Now that we are using the Internet in the classroom to support instruction, it is important the area of assessment be addressed. One usable method for teachers is to provide a rubric for student use and for both formative and summative assessment purposes. Another is to provide some type of graphic organizer. Below you will find a collection of assessment rubrics and graphic organizers that may be helpful to you as you design your own. Let me know if you have one you would like to share! A book dealing with both the theoretical and practical design of rubrics is the ASCD publication, Assessing Student Outcomes: Performance Assessment Using the Dimensions of Learning Model.

How often have you attempted to grade your students' work only to find that the assessment criteria were vague and the performance behavior was overly subjective? Would you be able to justify the assessment or grade if you had to defend it? The Rubric is an authentic assessment tool which is particularly useful in assessing criteria which are complex and subjective.

The 2007 PSSA Reading, Mathematics, and Writing Item and Scoring Samplers are tools to assist you with your instructional program and the reading, mathematics, and writing assessments. The samplers include test items written to focus on the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for writing and the Pennsylvania Assessment Anchor Content Standards (Assessment Anchors) for reading and mathematics. The items in the samplers will not appear on any operational form of the 2007 PSSA: however, they do provide examples of the types of items that will appear on the 2007 reading, mathematics, and writing assessments.

Interactivate is a suite of fifty-nine interactive mathematics assessments. These assessments allow users to track their percentage of correct and incorrect responses on each activity. Assessment is a huge topic that encompasses everything from statewide accountability tests to district benchmark or interim tests to everyday classroom tests. 3 In order to grapple with what seems to be an over use of testing, educators should frame their view of testing as assessment and that assessment is information. The more information we have about students, the clearer the picture we have about achievement or where gaps may occur.

Question stems can be a powerful part of that process no matter where the learner is. Regardless of the subject area, most next generation assessments require students to type many of their responses. Students need to be proficient with keyboarding skills so they will not be slowed down considerably by their own typing speed. Otherwise the assessment may not be a true measure of their content knowledge, but instead be negatively impacted by their typing proficiency.
