A carry-on bag is included in Lana Joseph's ticket price whenever she flies from Cleveland to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on United Airlines. Certainly, accommodating a live animal can be an extra burden on any company. Airlines are required to file monthly reports with the Transportation Department on pets that were lost, injured or died during transport. United has reported a total of 89 pet deaths since 2005, according to the Web site ThirdAmendment.com .
