Why You Should Switch HTTP to HTTPS - 0 views

  •
    You may have notice during browsing that some websites have HTTP (or, http://) in the start of URL and some have HTTPS (https://). The websites which have HTTPS in address bar may also have a green color lock symbol, or other signs that make the URL field look different from others. Why You Should Switch HTTP to HTTPS? What does it mean? Does it really make a difference? Yes it does. A single "S" can make a big difference when it comes to security and high-rank.

    "we start a new freedom journey and inaugurate the next-generation of email privacy and security. In 2014, with Kickstarter funding, I started the development of the Dark Internet Mail Environment (DIME), a revolutionary end-to-end encrypted global standard and Magma, its associated DIME capable free and open source mail server. Today, I am proud to announce that we are releasing DIME and Magma to the world. DIME provides multiple modes of security (Trustful, Cautious, & Paranoid) and is radically different from any other encrypted platform, solving security problems others neglect. DIME is the only automated, federated, encryption standard designed to work with different service providers while minimizing the leakage of metadata without a centralized authority. DIME is end-to-end secure, yet flexible enough to allow users to continue using their email without a Ph.D. in cryptology."

Enterprise Web 2.0 :: Web 2.0 Re-examined: Part 2 - What is Web 2.0? - 1 views

  • What Is Web 2.0? Web 2.0 is the next evolution of the web that has a new usage paradigm as well as a new technology paradigm. The former is characterized by “architecture of participation” and the latter is characterized by “architecture of partition”. The “Consumer-centric” View Causes Confusion There is no doubt that the “web 2.0” phenomenon is ignited by the success of consumer websites like MySpace, YouTube and Flickr.  From these consumer website, analysts established “social networking” via the network effect as a key feature of web 2.0. Though it is possible that enterprise oriented social computing applications may emerge to address specific enterprise concerns, it is not clear how social networking can change enterprise IT on a more fundamental level. Analysts further characterized “Architecture of Participation” as another key element of web 2.0, as evident from YouTube and Flickr. Similarly it is unclear whether/how “architecture of participation” would impact enterprise IT mission. Enterprise IT’s mission is simple: to enable and facilitate the interaction and integration of IT systems and people. There is no doubt that web 2.0 applications like blogs and wikis based on “architecture of participation” can be useful to enterprises, but is there anything beyond blogs and wikis? The key technology behind most consumer web 2.0 websites, Ajax, is not new. The popular “mashup” concept sounds new but in reality is based on what has been built into the browser for many years. The “consumer-centric” perspective limits how we look at the technology aspect of web 2.0 and leads to the conclusion that web 2.0 involves no technology advancement. Further, “architecture of participation”, “social networking” and “harness the collective intelligence” are all usage patterns. They do not relate to technology. In fact, they can be supported well on web 1.0 technologies; reinforcing the common belief that web 2.0 has no technology foundation but rather a buzzword created by marketers.  The Differences between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 Tim O’Reilly observed the Differences between web 1.0 and web 2.0 from a consumer perspective in his original essay: Web 1.0   Web 2.0 DoubleClick --> Google AdSense Ofoto --> Flickr Akamai --> BitTorrent mp3.com --> Napster Britannica Online --> Wikipedia personal websites --> blogging evite --> upcoming.org and EVDB domain name speculation --> search engine optimization page views --> cost per click screen scraping --> web services publishing --> participation content management systems --> wikis directories (taxonomy) --> tagging ("folksonomy") stickiness --> syndicationFrom Consumer Web 1.0 to Consumer Web 2.0    From an enterprise perspective, web 2.0 introduces a very different set of changes:  Web 1.0   Web 2.0 Browser --> Application Client Container HTML --> Declarative application markup HTTP(pull, unreliable) --> Push, pub/sub, reliable Application Server --> Mashup Server Appilcation Integration --> Enterprise Mashup/SOA Press release --> Corporate blogs Packaged software --> On demand/Saas Close source --> Open source Top down (dictatorship) --> Bottom up (democracy) Superbowl Ad/TV --> Google AdFrom Enterprise Web 1.0 to Enterprise Web 2.0 The Two Pillars: Consumer Web 2.0 and Enterprise Web 2.0 Web 2.0 has two pillars: consumer web 2.0 and enterprise web 2.0. These two do overlap, in particular, in the area of social computing. Consumer web 2.0 and enterprise web 2.0 have different characteristics, as shown below: Consumer Web 1.0   Enterprise Web 2.0 Architecture of Participation Architecture of Partition Social networking On Demand computing/SaaS Harness collective intelligence Enterprise social computing HTML Mashup Enterprise mashup Rich User Experience Rich User Experience The Web As Platform The Web As PlatformKey Characteristics of Consumer Web 2.0 and Enterprise Web 2.0 The technology paradigm shifts with web 2.0 brings tremendous, tangible and measurable ROI to corporate IT. Further, the new possibilities enabled by web 2.0 such as social computing are bringing corporate IT to new horizons.

DIASPORA* - 17 views

  •
    Diaspora is the social network that puts you in control of your information. You decide what you'd like to share, and with whom. You retain full ownership of all your information, including friend lists, messages, photos, and profile details. "Share what you want, with who you want." Full Control: built-in If you take twenty photos at a party, you can show the three least-incriminating to your coworkers, while posting the whole set to your friends. Your coworkers can't find out that they're seeing the expurgated version. Future employers can't either. You can post updates to everyone, to just your close friends, to just your family, or to any other subset of your friends. It's easy to make these groups, called "aspects," and it's straightforward to share different things with different aspects. Diaspora doesn't expose your information to advertisers, or to games you play, or to other websites you visit. It's inherently private - you tell Diaspora who gets to see those pictures of your kids, and only those people will see them. Period. Choose a home, make an account, and invite your friends to join you! Take back your network.

HighTouch: Rule 1 for Community Engagement: Responsiveness - 0 views

  • How they sold a million phones I'm not exactly sure. By the time I got to the front of the line at around 10:30p Eastern I would say that 80% of the customers were walking away empty handed. The transactions were failing at the point where Apple connected to the AT&T database. Apple was doing their best to provide service to their customers at 10:30 on a Friday night. Their partner, the entity that could have sent most of the customers home fat and happy was not. AT&T customer support was closed. They were still working industrial era "office hours". Not only were they closed on Friday night, they were closed for the entire weekend. A dramatic example of two partners with very different DNA.
  • I've been thinking about this a lot. Somewhere I heard, and I wish I could remember where, that the average time for a person to get their first response via Yahoo Answers in Korea is 45 seconds. That's a remarkable response time when you realize that the answer is most likely being typed on a mobile phone. Now, that answer is most probably crap, but the point remains-- in this new world people have an expectation of an almost instantaneous response. If you aren't prepared to offer instantaneous service then you shouldn't attempt to offer the service at all as you are most likely going to disappoint.
  • The first rule of community engagement: You have to respond. A real person has to respond, and you need to do it lightning fast. Anything less and you've disappointed. It's okay if you respond and say, "We hear you, and we're working on it." But it's not okay to answer with dead silence, or to say "Well get back to you first thing Monday morning. Have a nice weekend."

28 Rich Data Visualization Tools - InsideRIA - 15 views

  • We're currently working with a dozen different clients, all web application (re)designs. All of these clients have data rich applications and need equally rich data visualizations to help their end customers analyze data quickly and effectively. What makes my job really interesting is that these clients are in different industries and are using different technologies. So we have pulled together a set of 28 tools for creating graphs, Gantt charts, diagrammers, calendars/schedulers, gauges, mapping, pivot tables, OLAP cubes, and sparklines, in Flash, Flex, Ajax or Silverlight.
