AT&T: The end of the wireline telephone is in sight | Tech Policy & Law News - Betanews - 0 views

  •
In an historic public response to the US Federal Communications Commission's request for comments regarding its forthcoming National Broadband Plan, due before Congress on February 17, AT&T acknowledged not the forthcoming obsolescence, but the current obsolescence of the wireline telephone system. Without shame, it even applied the once-degrading acronym "POTS" (Plain Old Telephone System), interchangeably with "PSTN" (Public Switched Telephone Network), to refer to the one-time marvel of technology that defined its predecessor, the Bell System, in the 20th century.

Twittering, Not Frittering: Professional Development in 140 Characters | Edutopia - 0 views

  •
As soon as the lunch bell rings at his elementary school in Medford, Oregon, teacher David Cosand takes a few minutes to scan his mobile phone screen for messages that have accumulated throughout the morning in his Twitter account. In a few well-chosen words, the people Cosand follows via this free online service share their latest news, resources, questions, and (sometimes) trivia about education, technology, and related topics. Cosand became a Twitterer about a year ago, and he now considers Twitter one of his best sources of real-time professional development. "I'm able to get information and find opportunities I wouldn't have been able to gather on my own," he says.

Questions to ask as we ponder the latest PISA results - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
I am wanting to take a slightly different approach to this weeks post. The past week has seen the latest round of PISA results and the media has had a field day. Headlines have routinely attacked students, educators and education systems in equal measure. The Canberra Times reported that "Australian school scores plummet on world stage", the Sydney Morning Herald led with "Alarm bells': Australian students record worst result in global tests" and The Weekend Australian went with "PISA global educational rankings: Schools fail on maths, science".

The Student PLN Connect - 0 views

  • This appeared on Doug Johnson's Blue Skunk Blog on December 1, 2010.In response to a blog post last week, Shannon Miller, Library Media Specialist in Van Meter, Iowa, sent me a personal e-mail. She has graciously allowed me to use the e-mail as a guest blog post...I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your post Dear Students, Please Lead a Thoughtful Revolution. These few lines are just awesome and so RIGHT ON.....If you want to see this kind of revolution that will use technology to help make your schools more effective and meaningful to you - not just the same old, same old with a few bells and whistles - you will need to be the ones who lead the revolution.Technology alone won't create change. I am less and less convinced that adults will be able to fundamentally change how school is done.I think it will be up to you...

What Is Normal Distribution? How To Write Assignments Using It? - 1 views

  •
A normal distribution, also known as Gaussian or Gauss distribution, is the most significant probability distribution method in statistics. It fits many naturally occurring phenomena. Normal distribution usage is common in natural and social sciences. It is significant because of the Central Limit Theorem (CLT). CLT states that averages derived from independent, uniformly distributed random variables seem to constitute normal distributions. It is irrespective of the nature of distributions from which they are sampled. The bell-shaped curve can be observed everywhere in statistical reports. One can observe it in sample analysis, quality management and resource allocation.
