The pedagogical value and the challenges of integrating student blogging into your teaching is a recurring topic on ProfHacker. Some of our earliest posts dealt with student blogging, and we have revisited the issue frequently. Most recently, Jeff and Julie wrote about that age-old question-How are you going to grade this?-when it comes to evaluating classroom blogs.

Effective 21st century assessment reaches beyond traditional testing to look at the broader accomplishments of learners. Assembling an e-portfolio, or electronic portfolio, is an excellent method for assessing students' progress toward school, state, or national academic standards, as well as 21st century skills. An electronic portfolio is a purposefully limited collection of student selected work over time that documents progress toward meeting the standards.

Eporfolios would be great for the current teacher to view the strengths and weaknesses of their students. I can find the grade my students received last year but since each teacher grades so differently it really does not give much information.

Exploring wikis has been an adventure. But before I embark on this journey for a classroom assignment, I just have to cover all the basics. Being able to objectively assess this environment is important. This resource has provided a decent, comprehensive rubric

Great 21st century skills oriented wiki.

Provides a clear and thoughtful description of how to align Bloom's taxonomy (higher order of thinking skills - HOTS) with new technologies. I like that fact that it covers doing Advanced Boolean searches as well as utilizing web tools for student evaluation of HOTS.

Thank you for sharing this article. I plan to use excerpts of this piece with my students. The connections between "action verbs" and "digital verbs" in the thinking process is excellent. I will be interested to hear my students' perspectives on how the use of digital learning tools helps them develop their thinking and understanding of new concepts.

Schools and libraries hungry for faster and more reliably funded Wi-Fi connections will be watching the July 11 open meeting of the Federal Communications Commission closely. FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler's long-awaited E-rate modernization plan, which he released in outline form on June 20, will be discussed by commissioners and presumably voted on during the meeting. This article is so on topic right now. As we move forward and learn to incorporate the new technologies and collaborative tools for our students, isn't it sad that some school districts have to worry about how they will pay for access. Since this article has been posted, the FCC did vote to modernize the school and libraries E-rate. Unfortunately, this problem will continue to be present for the foreseeable future. Linda

Not Bad as a Simple Staring point for a rubric to evaluate a Prezi presentation. Needs Modification, though. I set my 'expectation bar' quite a bit higher. 

Good way to start in grading a Prezi presentation. I found when my students used Prezi (learned from another class) that I wished I had a different rubric from a general or powerpoint presentation rubric. There is a creative and design piece that was unique.
