This video does not call this class a flipped classroom, but it has a lot of similarities. This is through Project Zero, the institute that founded the thinking routines of which I am a big fan.

Flip This Library: School Libraries Need a Revolution - 0 views

School libraries need a revolution, not evolution One of the biggest business battles of our time is between Microsoft and Google. The two have very different business models. Microsoft believes that if they build it, we will come-and buy their product. Google's approach is different: if they build it, we will integrate it into our lives.

Library Attendance Is Declining. Here's Why - 1 views

  •
For centuries, libraries have simply been places that house books. This meaning of the word is embedded right within it; the Old French librairie, used in the 14th century, means "collection of books." An image of dusty stacks comes to mind, but, of course, the form a book can take is changing, and the ways we learn are changing along with it.

"When you bookmark a website with BonzoBox you get to decide where to put it on your BonzoBox homepage. Then we take a picture of the website and keep the picture updated for you. You can organize your websites by topic, keep notes on a site, and of course if you want to keep a site private, you can."

"JOG THE WEB is a web-based tool that allows anyone to create a synchronous guide to a series of web sites. Its step by step approach of taking viewers through web sites allowing the author to annotate and ask guiding questions for each page is unique. Give it a try and start creating your own Jogs."

Shelf Control: The New Epic! iPad App Is The Netflix For Children's Books - 4 views

  •
Now, there's a newly released app that's something of a "Netflix for children's books," with its library of titles especially for kids. Some very popular titles that are hard to keep on the shelf, can be accessed here. Kids are LOVING!
  •
I used Epic! with one of my RtI intervention groups. It was a group of "reluctant readers" who just needed more time engaging with text in a high autonomy format. They love it!

Resources for Using Comics in Education - 3 views

  •
Why to use comics and tools to use
  •
I just met with a book vendor (Worldbook Encyclopedia) and a few of their off-shoot featured text sets are combining graphic novels with informational text. They are called THE BUILDING BLOCKS OF SCIENCE (Life Science set 1, Plant/Animal Science set 2) BUILDING BLOCKS OF PHYSICAL SCIENCE, and BUILDING BLOCKS OF MATHEMATICS. There are really great visuals, is kid friendly, breaks down skills without "dumbing" them down. Reviews by SLJ, Booklist. If I have the budget...I would like to look into these. Also the '15-16 Worldbook edition comes with embedded QRL codes that can be scanned by smartphones so it can be multi-media combining printed text as well as digital information. Laura W.

Technology | Cult of Pedagogy - 3 views

  •
Cult of Pedagogy, spearheaded by Jennifer Gonzalez, provides an amazing assortment of information for teachers. I follow her on Twitter and I especially enjoy the technology content. She and her team shares out updates on new technology, websites, apps, etc. and these are great to share out with staff and students. Jennifer Gonzalez is great to follow as she keeps current on a lot of the new technology out there but also gives ideas and context as to how to use it in an education setting. Worth checking out...

Ooh, I like this one! Easy to navigate with what looks like great info. The page is a really simple, clear design so I am fan already! Thanks for sharing!
