CHICAGO - ALA Publishing has brought back the popular workshop Makerspaces: The Library's Legal Answers with Tomas A. Lipinski and Gretchen McCord; moderated by Dr. Sara Gonzalez. This workshop will last 90 minutes and is hosted live at 2:00 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, Mar. 23, 2016.
This is a great spot for resources on Makerspace. This idea was new to me, so this was quite helpful to see examples, get history, and begin thinking about creating my own.
CHICAGO - In collaboration with Instructables.com and the American Library Association, Make It @ Your Library introduces www.MakeItAtYourLibrary.org, a new website tailored to librarians interested in implementing makerspace projects in their libraries. Fully searchable, Make It @ your library connects users to projects, based on library-specific search criteria.
Now, there's a newly released app that's something of a "Netflix for children's books," with its library of titles especially for kids. Some very popular titles that are hard to keep on the shelf, can be accessed here. Kids are LOVING!
I used Epic! with one of my RtI intervention groups. It was a group of "reluctant readers" who just needed more time engaging with text in a high autonomy format. They love it!
