Rene, I think for those of us that are older, we still remember that during our time in school computers were seen as just that, a tool that could be used during free time or during play time. We need let go of that mentality and adjust to the changing time. Computers can and should be used to foster knowledge among our students.

Sir Ken Robinson: Bring on the learning revolution! - 50 views

Jaime, coming from a historian and military background, when I hear the word revolution I think of overthrowing the existing and bring something new onboard. I do believe that education needs to be revamped but if you think about it most of us went through the same system and look at us, we adapted and overcame. Sir Ken Robinson makes a very clear statement that we should pay close attention to, not everyone is made to go to college. We need firemen; we need people in the fields picking up the crops so we need to stop using that mentality that every student should be a college graduate. It does not work that way in the real world, education needs to wake up and smell the coffee.

Rene, I think that deep down most of us are scared when it comes to changes. Especially when it's a change to something you have been doing "successfully" for many years. We get comfortable with what we know and become defensive when management wants to change things around.

    Maricela,
I have been using Wordpress for a few years now. This tool is excellent for blogging; the blogs seem more personal and much easier to read than using the traditional Blackboard set up. Students seem to be more at ease using Wordpress to blog and it's a lot less complicated than Blackboard.

Daniel, thanks for introducing us to Powtoons last semester, it's a great tool and a lot of fun to work with. I asked the coordinator of the undergraduate EDTC courses if I could remove one of the current projects in a class I teach and create one where students will use Powtoons. She was very excited but of course this would be later on this year or next since redesigning a class is time consuming.
