What a great site to explain energy. My 3rd graders learn about potential energy, kinetic energy, light and sound energy, etc. This site will provide great information and resources when I begin this Energy unit in November. With an outdated textbook, I'll rely more and more on sites like this to explain the possibilities of new energies, especially as our natural resources deplete and we rely on finding new ones or utilizing renewable resources.

A huge collection of resources for career exploration geared toward K-8, but with the changes happening in the world of work, adults and high school students could benefit from this resource as well. This site also has resources for educators to help children explore careers.

Site includes maps, pictures, thematic packets for teachers and more. Teachers are able to navagate throughout the site to access all aspects of history. Site also provides sources for professional training and outside resources. Site provides training on how to use primary sources.

Library of Congress Teachers Page, with links to using primary sources, etc. The LOC has created "Themed Resources" that include specific, common topics into easy to use sets. The combined Resources include grouped primary source sets, lessson plans, exhibitions, etc. Love IT! Also provides user with pre-made LOC professional development sessions called "Teaching with Primary Sources."

This site contains a wealth of resources for teachers. They have primary source sets that include teacher resource booklets and lesson plans. One of the sets I found useful was one on the Constitution that included newspaper articles and original documents that trace the drafting and adoption of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. This set would be useful for all grade levels for Constitution day materials in September. There was also an interesting primary source set on Thanksgiving that had paintings and photographs showing historical perspectives on American Thanksgiving traditions.

While the Library of Congress website is vast, I found the Classroom Resources section under the Teachers heading to be beneficial for my current position as a third grade classroom teacher; although many of the items I saw could be used at any elementary grade level. I found the Primary Sources by State and Immigration Challenges to be beneficial to my current unit in my district's SS program. The Thanksgiving link would be interesting for the students to see and discover things they didn't know before celebrating this holiday. I'll definitely use this site with my students, because it goes so well with what we're studying. Plus, it creates a more 'real' experience than their textbook allows.

Kathy Schrock provides information about using primary and secondary sources to make them easier to find and use with students. The wide assortment of subjects are grouped into easy to navigate categories to easily find a resource/link. Connections to Lewis and Clark would be a great resource for 4th grade.

Encourages/motivates eating healthy and being active. Fun resources for children/parents for learning about and tracking eating/exercise habits. Food/exercise pyramid. Elementary grades.

The Smithsonian has webpages for students, families, and teachers. The student site has primary sources in the format of pictures and video footage. They are called IdeaLabs on this site. The IdealLab I found interesting was the Walk on the Moon. It included a video footage from the Apollo landing on the moon and President Kennedy's address to the nation.

This website organizes some of the Smithsonian Institution's vast resources into four topics for students to explore: art, science, history and people/places. There are incredible virtual tours, online interactive labs, games and activities. The site has an educator's section with lesson plans and a search feature to find resources by keyword, grade, and subject.

Explore art, science, history, and people like never before. If you teach the solar system, plate tectonics, volcanoes, or rocks and minerals the Dynamic Earth site is for you. I was so impressed being able to go online and zoom in on hundreds of different rocks, minerals, and gems. Fascinating!

This site uses primary images along with videos about topics like the Great Depression and Dust Bowl. Having videos of individual's remembering these specific historical events related to Nebraska history from would be a powerful resource for students. This would be a great resource to use along with other primary documents.

NOAA has primary resource collections on the Gulf oil spill, hurricanes, El Nino, tides and sea turtles. I really like the way they feature current topics of importance in the news right now. This would be a great way to teach media literacy to our students. They also have a feature activity section called "Data in the Classroom" where students can make real world connections with real data related to El Nino, sea level, and water quality.

This site is an excellent weather website with resource collections divided into the following areas: ocean and coasts, climate, weather and atmosphere, marine life (sea turtles), freshwater (water cycle), and special topics. There data visualizations for weather events, lots of maps and charts for middle/high school students to analyze weather events, water cycle lessons, and a section with activities for teachers to bring real world data into the classroom.

This website focuses on the study of geology, geography, our natural resources, and the natural hazards that threaten us. I believe this site is best suited for secondary level students. Government documents include photos, maps, news releases, and videos about all topics in the earth science area. I especially found the "Science In Your Backyard" tab on the right margin interesting. You select a state and a link will allow you to access real time data, statistics, and new releases related to geology and natural resources in that state.

An excellent resource for students researching the Holocaust. Probably more useful for the high school student who wants transcripts/interviews/actual documents from world leaders who were involved in policy decisions during this time. PBS, a reliable trusted resource.

A fabulous resource for primary source documents detailing important events in American history. The site links you to the actual document image, which students would love, and the explanation below. Over 100 original documents with live links. Also a tab for teacher resources. Great site for American history research.

I really liked the teacher resources on this site. It was applicable for any grade, and was broken up into how much time you would like to spend. There are also a variety of multimedia resources. This was and interesting series as it looks at what scientists and engineers do outside the lab, and how it can relate back to their work. There are also a wide variety of careers and ages of individuals interviewed.

This site is full of links that can be used when studying the American Revolution. It covers key individuals, spies, battles, causes of the war and a lot more. There is also a timeline link that could be used to teach about timelines.

This website is linked with a lot of information and resources. What I thought was awesome about this site is that it has actual letters written by soldiers and families of soldiers. During a unit on the Revolutionary War, materials like these are priceless and so much more meaningful that words from a textbook.

This site gives an explanation of primary resources along with many reputable links to websites that have primary documents. Additional information about using subject directories and search engines will make searching for primary documents a little easier.

This site offers many primary sources and documents from the Holocaust. It also provides teacher resources teachers can use to teach their classes about the Holocaust.

The NPAHE has links to Nebraska historical documents and photos along with connections to other events in US history. There are primary documents, links to additional resources and lesson plans to help put everything together.

A richly interactive site where visitors can design and create varied genres of art. A virtual tour through the NGA has an accompanying guide in 5 languages. Extensive information on artists from all eras. Lots of activities at the teacher's site. A good instructional site. Grades 3-12.

This art site allows children to explore American Folk art, landscapes, abstract art, still life, and digital photography. Children are able to manipulate art to create their own pieces. Students can also create a tropical jungle. There are additional online resources for teachers, as well as a link to exhibits from the National Art Gallery.

This page contains several art activities for children, including interactive art programs that allow students to create portraits or still life pictures. There is a link that allows students to search for specific artists or works. This site would be a good resource for art teachers, but English teachers could also use it to find different works of art that appeal to kids and could be used for descriptive writing assignments.
