This site seems to be a good one for 4-12 grade levels. It has interactive weather sites, the ability for students to make up their own interactive sites. There is a weather channel they cna visit. They can alos explore a site called the "Weather Eye", one called, "Accuweather", and one called, "USA Today Weather. At each of these sutes there are various other sites to go to to do different activities. This site would be a good one of which a school teacher librarian should be aware.

This seems to be a good site for U.S. history. It separates lessons by ERA. It incluseds worksheets for each ERA as well as documents which are related to the ERA. There are pictures from each of the ERAS and various teaching activities. I would use this site for the 9-12 grade student with the possibility of use with middle school students.

Ben's guide is a gov doc that teaches about the US government. I accessed the section for 3-5 grades. This included information about historical documents, branches of the government and the election process. There is a glossary of terms and a list of other government websites. It is "narrated" by Ben Franklin

The MedlinePlus website would be very valuable for students in middle and high school grades doing research about diseases and health related topics. MedlinePlus provides health information and documents from the world's largest medical library, the National Library of Medicine. MedlinePlus is updated daily and has current reliable information on over 800 diseases and conditions. I especially found interesting the video footage of numerous actual surgeries narrated by doctors to treat major medical conditions.

NOAA has primary resource collections on the Gulf oil spill, hurricanes, El Nino, tides and sea turtles. I really like the way they feature current topics of importance in the news right now. This would be a great way to teach media literacy to our students. They also have a feature activity section called "Data in the Classroom" where students can make real world connections with real data related to El Nino, sea level, and water quality.

This site is an excellent weather website with resource collections divided into the following areas: ocean and coasts, climate, weather and atmosphere, marine life (sea turtles), freshwater (water cycle), and special topics. There data visualizations for weather events, lots of maps and charts for middle/high school students to analyze weather events, water cycle lessons, and a section with activities for teachers to bring real world data into the classroom.

This is a gov doc created by the environmental protection agency that teaches students about the environment, recycling, and human impact on plants and animals. There are links to a student center for elementary and middle school students, a high school link and a resource area for teachers.

This site has almost anything one would want having to do with the United States government. It is one of the most extensive sites relating to the U.S. government. It has information for students as low as kindergarten and as high as seniors. It seems rare to find a site that truely covers this range of ages as well as this one does. For the elementary teacher and the high school history teacher this will be a helpful site to use.

A huge collection of resources for career exploration geared toward K-8, but with the changes happening in the world of work, adults and high school students could benefit from this resource as well. This site also has resources for educators to help children explore careers.

A subsearch of National Geographic. If you are looking for primary source photographs, these are beautiful. They have a direct link for downloading photos to Diigo. Many categories of photos. This particular site on rainforests would be useful to elementary school students doing research on environments, animal habitats, etc.

This website is another portal with many links that are organized very well. This website has 2 links that I would use most often and they are the Ben's Guide to the Government link, which is a very kid-friendly website that talks about the U.S. government, and it has a link to primary early government documents like the Constitution and Bill of Rights, etc. This site may not be as useful in the elementary grades as it would in high school, but the links I mentioned above would be good for 5th and 6th grade students.

An excellent resource for students researching the Holocaust. Probably more useful for the high school student who wants transcripts/interviews/actual documents from world leaders who were involved in policy decisions during this time. PBS, a reliable trusted resource.

Though sponsored by Random House publishers, this site has a lot of primary source information on popular middle school author Gary Paulsen. Live video clip interviews, biographical information, book list, and synopsis of selected books too. If your Language Arts students are doing author letters or research, this is one site to access for some facts about Paulsen.

This University of Washington home page provides access to primary documents, photographs, projects related to the Native American tribes. The initial page allows you to access tribal documents and other collections by country subsections. There is a specific section on Omaha as well as documents on Wounded Knee in the Midwest link. The site accesses many university projects relating to Native Americans, including University of Arizona and University of Oklahoma, all legitimate sites. This would be a great site for social studies students in OPS schools where eighth graders learn about the Trail of Tears and other significant Native American events.

The Nobel home web site offers a generous supply of first hand information not only on the prize itself, but of the many men and women who have earned the prestigious prize. The entry here is of Herman Hesse, his autobiography sketch in his own words. The home page offers links to all winners in all areas, the sciences, literature, etc. A great resource for librarians as well as students, mostly appealing to high school and up, wanting more specific information on Nobel Laureates as well as the origination of the prize.

Investigate and identify point and nonpoint sources of water pollution. Simulate the steps in the water treatment process.

This site provides primary documents with their transcriptions surrounding the Salem Witch Trials. Included are images of court records, books, and personal letters. The images can be made larger, and while students would not be able to read most of the document, the image brings life to the source. Having the transcription so that students can read what was actually said is powerful. Middle school and high school students would find the information fascinating. It would partner well with social studies and literature.

This college textbook publisher site has primary sources on several different events in Europe - see http://college.cengage.com/history/west/resources/students/primary/index.html for an index. The text is here, no imagery, but for high school teachers, there is a lot of good information here.

This Library of Congress site would be fun to use as a bell work activity in upper elementary school. Each day a student could pick one event from "today in history" to share with the class. Informative with pictures!

Today in History is part of the Library of Congress' American Memory project. As the title implies, the site pulls a signicant event in history, reports about it and shows primary sources -- photos and documents -- attached to the event. The writers generally pick one or two topics for the day and elaborate on those. Excellent for upper grades.

This is and an awesome site for students who want to intern for any government job possible. There are connections to the FBI, the state department, EPA, and many more. This would be good experience for any 9-12 grade student. The teacher librarian could be a big help to a student wanting to intern with almost any government agancy.

This site explains disasters of all kids. It focuses on weather. hiss site would be useful when teaching weather and getting kids to understand the different aspects of weather. It's also good to know about the different kinds of disasters so you can be prepared! Kids love learning about different disasters they are unfamiliar with.

This site gives information about Federal Emergency Management Agency. It provides links to games and interactive sites that help kids understand the agency, what it does, types of weather emergencies and how to be prepared for weather emergencies. This would be a good addition/extension to a weather unit in 3rd-5th science curriculum.

An animated site geared toward elementary students with information on FEMA. Includes follow up quizzes, template for planning family disaster drills and an interactive map showing current FEMA efforts in U. S. disaster areas. Good companion to current events and science.
