A film on OhioLINK. Communication is at the core of the human experience, even though effective communication takes a lifetime to learn. This program explores how we develop the arts of speech and physical expression to make ourselves understood and to understand others. Visiting a group of 25 three-year-olds, the film observes them learning as many as ten new words a day-some already grasping the first 1,500 components of the 20,000-word vocabulary collected in the average life span. The "nonverbal leakage" or body language that supplements verbal skills is also explored, demonstrating that children with verbal disadvantages can compensate through other techniques. This study examined the roles of sensation seeking and self-efficacy in explaining extreme and high physical risk taking behavior. Study participants were 20 extreme risk takers chosen from participants in skiing, rock climbing, kayaking, and stunt flying. One control group was comprised of 20 high, but not extreme, risk takers from each of these activities, matched to the participants in skill and experience. A second control group consisted of 20 trained athletes involved in moderate risk sports. Percepts of self-efficacy emerged as the principle variable differentiating the groups. A social cognitive explanation for desire for mastery was used to understand what enables risk takers to overcome the potentially inhibiting influences of anxiety, fear, and the recognition of danger. This conclusion is further reinforced by converging results from interviews with the participants.

This article is about a study/experiment that was done with a group of adults that had visited a health clinic. The tested the performance of new vital signs, and if people were able to read them. This tested there literacy levels, and they had other ways of testing there literacy levels.

This article is about an experiment/ study that was conducted about health literacy and adolescents. The study was conducted in Australia. It tested the mental health literacy of adolescents and the effected that SMS messages had on them. The study did not have exact outcomes and more research has to be done in order to report exact information.

This article is about an experiment that was done to test the knowledge of elderly adults. There were 137 participants and the test lasted for about five weeks. The test proved that if the elderly were given a course about internet and computer use, they were more open to using it and did not stress or have anxiety over it. They also were given internet/computer courses about health that improved there health literacy.

This article is concerned with what it may mean to individuals to engage in practices that are physically challenging and risky. The article questions the assumptions that psychological health is commensurate with maintaining physical safety, and that risking one's health and physical safety is necessarily a sign of psychopathology. The research was based upon semi-structured interviews with eight extreme sport practitioners. The interviews were analysed using Colaizzi's version of the phenomenological method. The article explicates the themes identified in the analysis, and discusses their implications for health psychology theory and practice. This article describes a study taken of 176 college students to evaluate their patterns of marijuana use as well as its positive and negative effects. Its results found two types of users those that smoked casually and rarely bought product and those that smoked on a regular daily basis. There were both positive and negative effects reported but there were far greater positive reports than negative. The study also described indicators of dependence as well as the tendency of more regular problematic users to combine marijuana use with tobacco and alcohol. This article is helpful because it gives insight to the opinions of those people that actually use the drug being called into question. It addresses both positive and negative effects of use that gives readers a well rounded amount of information on both sides of the argument. It also sheds light how most people that smoke marijuana are at higher risk of using alcohol and tobacco.
