The author examines differences between data they have collected of 13 urban schools. They collected this data by using test scores, surverys, and case studies, in which other people cmae into schools and watched them. They found very inconsistent information because of the small sample size they had. The only assessed low and high scoring students, which may have caused problems. The teachers use assesment in the classroom to see what students needs are and to have them achieve the goals.

The article discusses data from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) that indicates more college students in NCAA programs are graduating as compared to previous years. The data illustrated that a majority of college athletes in Division I colleges graduated and that graduation rates improved for male college basketball players and baseball players.

This article talks about some common sense rules cannabis users should regulate their use. By comparative study of marijuana users in Amsterdam and San Francisco data shows similar use patterns and having to do with drug control. Despite different drug policies the two cities are similar in marijuana use. This is excellent support because it shows that it does not matter if marijuana is legal or not. This data comparison also supports reasons for legalization. If one country has legalized marijuana and it is not effecting their society negatively than the US needs to reconsider marijuana laws.

We sought to determine whether literacy mediates the relationship between education and glycemic control among diabetes patients. Methods: We measured educational attainment, literacy using the Short Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults (s-TOFHLA), and glycemic control (HbA1c) in 395 diabetes patients at a U.S. public hospital. We performed path analysis to compare two competing models to explain glycemic control. The direct effects model estimated how education was related to HbA1c; the mediational model estimated the strength of the direct relationship when the additional pathway from education to literacy to HbA1c was added. Results: Both the model with a direct effect of education on HbA1c and the model with literacy as a mediator were supported by good fit to observed data. The mediational model, however, was a significant improvement, with the additional path from literacy to HbA1c reducing the discrepancy from observed data (p<0.01). After including this path, the direct relationship between education and HbA1c fell to a non-significant threshold. Conclusions: In a low-income population with diabetes, literacy mediated the relationship between education and glycemic control. This article discusses early alcohol use and abuse among college students. They use surveys and other questioners to access use and abuse among college students. They discuss how early use of alcohol makes students more prone to alcoholism. They use statistical data collected by these surveys. Drug and alcohol use among college students is on the rise. This is a great article for me because I can use this statistical information against alcohol use and it more negative effects rather than marijuana negative effects. There is a lot more interesting statistical data I can use to show evidence of marijuana usage compared to alcohol use. Alcohol use compared to marijuana are a lot different alcohol in the long run is a lot worse for humans. Marijuana is a lot more laid back drug with no dependence.

There are many colleges students that engage in illegal alcohol and drug consumption. There had been a rise un marijuana and other illicit drugs used. Many colleges students claim they drunk and do drugs to relax. In 2005 the number of college students claiming to smoke marijuana climbed to 4%. This huge number of students helps support the rise in drug use on college campus. This is becoming a problem among college students. This article is the best one I have found it talk about the rise of drug use among college students. It talks about statistical data and the percentages of use among college students. This is more statistical data that just show that there is more needed to be done with college students and drinking these days. With this in mind I will out these into my article and use them accordingly.

Adolescence is a period of great intellectual development that holds a lasting, lifelong influence. The authors examine the degree to which a school's religious affiliation and contextual teaching influence the development of adolescent belief systems and attitudes. The researchers find that the religious tenor of the school is incredibly influential in shaping student worldviews. Because religion and science are often viewed as diametrically opposed, I'd like to take this data a little further and ask, to what degree does this trend impede or facilitate scientific literacy?

Kwate's research primarily served to analyze the density of fast-food restaurants in New York City with a focus on the correlations of race and economic status or income on restaurant density. This research is especially beneficial to me because the data from this source is from the perspective of a United States major city. Results from this study showed that there were more restaurants in black areas than there were in white areas. Also economic status or income of the population did not seem to have a correlation with fast-food restaurant density.

In this article the authors discuss the reason for lack of financial literacy among young people in today's society. Their main argument for the lack of financial literacy is a student's not having motivation. Research shows that this is true for students even after taking part in a financial literacy curriculum. The authors were able to find data to back up the point that lack of motivation leads to lack of financial literacy.

The authors of this article tried to generate search technology to view library resources; however, they found a number of problems. Because of these struggles, they conducted an experiment comparing Organ State University Libraries design to Google Scholar. They use volunteers to conduct research in an efficient and effective way to discover the reliability of each student. They used both qualitative and quantitative data to determine how Google compares to other search engines. This article also presents charts and tables that make understanding the experimental result with more ease.

This article reports on a small-scale study which examined the home literacy practices of a group of 3 and 4 year-old children in a working-class community in the north of England and explored how far these practices were reflected in the curriculum of the nursery the children attended. The data illustrate that there was a dissonance between out-of-school and schooled literacy practices and that there was more evidence of nursery literacy practices infiltrating the home than vice versa. Children's literacy practices in the home were focused on media and popular cultural texts and the article argues for greater recognition of these contemporary cultural practices in early years policy documentation and curriculum guidance. This article responds to many of the existing creationist arguments by refuting them with scientific evidence, including substantiation from reputable sources. Kessler, chair of the department of physics at Illinois Wesleyan University, discusses his personal experiences with teaching college freshmen, including an astounding case in which a student who had received a 32 on his ACT dropped out of college on the advice of his minister. At the heart of the issue was a belief system that could not be reconciled with Kessler's instruction. The article also focuses on the backgrounds of the students and the ways in which their limited (sometimes nonexistent and often misinformed) research illustrates a lack of understanding of the scientific method and the nature of experimental data. In this way, the creationist student mindset can be examined in context of his/her belief system.

College students today face a difficult time with easy access to a credit card and a lack of financial literacy. The authors' study concluded that the average college student is currently accumulating debt at an increasing rate. They believe the allure and purchasing power of a credit card causes some young adults to forgo their own inhibitions and just spend. This study provides an excellent source of quantitative information in the form of survey responses and charts. The authors break down their survey group into many categories, such as age and sex, to examine debt. The plethora of data allows correlations to be made and therefore a better understanding of college student credit card debt. However, the sample size was only 448 students on five college campuses, and in the future, a larger sample size could provide a more detailed and accurate analysis.

An article, based mostly on anecdotal data, that discusses college students' lack of "religious literacy."

The author in this article does a study to see if the relationship between teachers perceptions of the leadership of school principals in a large urban school district. This study seems very reliable because the number of people in the study is about 700, which i a sufficient number to collect data from. The article also explains that decision making in schools have changed and teamwork has improved and with the teamwork in urban schools it is important to have a leader.

The author of this article does a study of individual level and school structural variables and weather they effect academic achievement. This study was conducted on about 12,000 10th graders so it is sufficient data and very reliable. They found that a schools climate is very important and can influence a students achievement level. Also, the article mentions student involovment will help academic achievement in many students.

This article measures the use of alcohol marijuana and cocaine among college students. This article talks about excess uses of these drugs and their effects on negative behavior. This survey was taken and it asked students how many times they used alcohol, marijuana or cocaine and how it affected their behavior socially. Demographics and social class plays roles in the different users in college. This article is great for me because it helps me better understand usage and its social behavioral effects on college students. This gives me information of the prevalence of marijuana use among college students and the rates of use. This is statistical data of 1,400 students helps me use and understand the information in my paper. With this information I can compare it to other articles and surveys taken.

The fourth quarter college plans have continued to decrease due to the economic crisis. The assets in 529 college savings plans fell over 21% from last year. Investors are optimistic and the data shows that people are still attempting to save for college. Unfortunately many parents do not know how to save or how much they will need for college. College expenses continue to increase faster that wages and have increased at a rate of 5.7% a year. If this trend continues the gap between income and college tuition is going to be even more difficult to cope with.

This article gives insight on the association of marijuana and tobacco use. This is a major connection between these two because of the social similarities. They talk about the risks associated with smoking tobacco and marijuana and how with alcohol use these risks increase. With marijuana use on the rise many health related problems associated with cigarettes and alcohol are increasing. With statistical data taken this alcohol and tobacco problems are increasing yearly. This article give me some important insight on the relation of tobacco and marijuana use. There are many relations with alcohol consumption and tobacco use but marijuana and tobacco use are also very closely related. Tobacco use among Whites in regards to race is much higher than it is with Blacks and Hispanics. This is some important statistical information closely related to my topic. Tobacco and marijuana use are closely related.

Forster discusses how teaching with a graphics calculator can help a student understand the concepts of certain graphs, and how graphs are formed. One graph specifically mentioned is the scatter plot graph, and how it is applied to functions. She also discusses how after learning these concepts on a graphics calculator, students were able to graph by hand easier without the help of the instructor. A study was conducted and explained within the classroom setting. This article while limited in the size of study shows how the use of graphics calculators can help students in the understanding of certain math concepts.
