This article from ERIC, the Education Resources Information Center, a great free database for anyone doing research related to education, discusses aliteracy among college students. The PDF format is available via the link at the top of the page. It would be beneficial for all students to check out because it is an example of a well-written, college-level research paper.

The article discusses financial-literacy programs at universities and colleges in the United States. Programs like Texas Tech University's help its students master the basics of budgeting, saving, and not buying what they can't afford. These programs are especially important as colleges grapple with rising costs and an economic downturn in the country. The author states that financial literacy affects student retention, productivity, and mental health, and may also generate good will in a time when colleges are being criticized for repeatedly raising tuition, fees, and housing costs. The article focuses on the problem of college debt and knowledge about financial terms. It also goes into discussion of what some universities are doing to help this problem by offering classes/seminars. Valuable article.

This study represents a grounded theory investigation of how motivation and self-perceptions influence students' emotions, cognitions, and behaviors by focusing on student-athletes, individuals who may experience conflicting sets of motivation and self issues. From observing and interviewing nine student-athletes at a Research 1 university, we developed a process model relating themes to the students' experiences.

This article is an overview of a financial literacy survey done by the company Jump$tart. The survey involved questioning high school and college students across the country. The results show that although college students literacy is a little higher, in general this target age group has low financial literacy.

This study can be beneficial to my research. One of the purposes of this study was to examine the preferences of college students when given crackers with 2 different kinds of cream cheese, being high-fat and low-fat, spread on it. The results were not shocking, as students favored the taste of the high-fat cream cheese over the low-fat cream cheese. I could use these findings to support my research in that taste plays an important factor in food selection.

Kessler, chair of the department of physics at Illinois Wesleyan University, discusses his personal experiences with teaching college freshmen, including an astounding case in which a student who had received a 32 on his ACT dropped out of college on the advice of his minister. At the heart of the issue was a belief system that could not be reconciled with Kessler's instruction. The article also focuses on the backgrounds of the students and the ways in which their limited (sometimes nonexistent and often misinformed) research illustrates a lack of understanding of the scientific method and the nature of experimental data. In this way, the creationist student mindset can be examined in context of his/her belief system.

The author holds research concerning students food safety practices as a result from intervention. At the end of the experience he found that the participants became more aware of their food intake and the way it was prepared. They focused on college students because they are the most likely to unsafely prepare food.

This article surrounds the idea that obesity in college students can be traced to eating disordered behaviors. They conducted research of students with different weights in order to find which weight group had the least amount of nutritional education. The higher weight group would partake in such unhealthy activities such as binge eating and a "preoccupation with food".

This paper focuses on the recent decline in the American and how American's saving habits are in need of change. Currently many Americans do not own stock, let alone their own home and many college students are facing credit card debt. The average American has a negative savings rating mean they spend all of their disposable income and then dip into their past savings. At least 45% of college students are in credit card debt and this number is likely to continue to rise.

The Authors of this article have conducted a study on 710 college students who were taking Pre-Calculus class. They were split into a controlled group, and a test group. The control group took the course using basic technology, and text books. The test group used graphics calculators and textbooks geared towards learning with graphics calculators. At the end of the course the students were required to take a comprehensive exam. The results showed that the students who took the course with the graphics calculators scored much higher than those who took the course in the traditional fashion. This study was conducted over a period of three semesters, and will prove very useful in my argumentation.

The article concluded that meditation based stress management practices reduces stress as well as enchance forgiveness among college undergraduates.

Their are statistics of demographics, financial classes, and even personality types and their relationship to debt. Could provide a good viewpoint of sociological and psychology factors for research.

These authors examine the trust students have with both library search websites and other search engines such as Google. They discuss the attempt of colleges and universities to push students away from Google to Google Scholar. The authors then go on to explain how Google Scholar works and what one can accomplish from the main search page. The article explains how one can find the title of the book, book reviews, and a place to retrieve the book. It gives a number of examples of different searches that were conducted making it easier to see how to operate Google Scholar and its benefits. This article describes the reliance of students on Google and states that the only way to wean this Google reliance is Google Scholar.

Although most states include evolution as a essential part of a well-rounded education, legislative action is continually perverting science standards to a point where we must ask the question, "Do state science standards matter?" Between 2005 and 2006, 23 states have modified science curricula, which further obscures the issue. Bandoli surveyed close to 2,500 freshman college students from both Indiana and Ohio regarding their experiences in high school biology. Among the incredible statistical information assembled here, Bandoli found that over 90% of students regarded evolution as a strong scientific theory. Considering the fact that 66% of high school biology teachers either breeze over or snub the teaching of evolution, these results appear to suggest that students may actually be more open-minded and competent than their high school teachers.
