I had the exact same error as "drizad" when installing ies4linux-2.99.0.1 on Ubuntu Linux 8.10 And the exact same fix worked a dream for installing IE6, which seems to run very well after a brief test (though it won't shut down without a CTRL-C - lucky it is unix :) )

This is all a bit of fun, but all the same. someone please give me the link to the vote counts - I would love to know what the runners up are to some of these. (Yes I am the sort of person that also looks at Ubuntu and Debian popularity-contest results.) There are some well-deserved victories and predictable horrors here: I think 'worse is better' applies to some of these winners.

Reportedly I need a very recent version of Wine to run Google's Windows distribution of the Chrome Browser. This is a place I can get it for Ubuntu 8.10 (intrepid)

Interesting selection of Window Managers. It is a list of usual suspects, with 2 promising recruits: FVWM-Crystal and Openbox, but the omission of Enlightenment, Blackbox and WindowMaker.

Pretty Emacs (fonts) - Alexandre Vassalotti 2007 - 0 views

  • For Ubuntu 9.04 “Jaunty Jackalope” and newer, use the packages in Ubuntu repositories.

I think he means the package "emacs-snapshot". The default Emacs in Ubuntu 9.04 is still version 22, which, as far as I can tell, does not support Xfont (in the body of the editor). I certainly can't get it to work, and Emacs is too important to risk using the snapshot ;)
