Clay Risen -- Germany's Election and the Digital Dark Ages - washingtonpost.com - 0 views

  • Mainstream politicians have responded by pressuring service providers to shut down extremist sites and member pages. Although well-intentioned, that strategy is just further proof of how out of touch they are: As any record company exec will tell you, the Web is far too dynamic a place for blunt regulations. The only way to win over Europe's digital generation is to engage with it on its own terms, in its own media. European political parties need to realize that in the era of Internet politics, winning means ceding a little control -- otherwise, they might lose it completely.

This type of thinking is lost on political, union and third sector thinking which still aims at smothering the masses with what they think they need instead of simply providing the tool sets for people to use in their own ways to suit their own needs.

The last paragraphi is the kicker, but the whole article shows why some political groups get social media and some don't.

Automatic translation of TAGS Twitter archives using Google Apps Script 'Language' serv... - 0 views

"That was a really handy and timely hack - thanks Martin…:-) PS Makes me wonder if a real time translated backchannel stream might be a handy value add for international confs? After all, it's pointless more than one person in a conf doing the tweet translation if the result itself can be streamed?"

Eddy - 1 views

  •
Eddy is a media aggregation platform built for the public display of up-to-the-minute activity on realtime services like Twitter. It offers three primary features: rapid collection and curation of what people are saying about an event, moderation of acceptable material, and speedy, reliable republishing of these conversational streams. Setup of the application is fast and easy, and made specifically for use by interactive media designers.

  • keeping up with, say, a work account and a personal account is actually easier on a device than on the web

Has anyone found multiple account switching especially useful on a device vs switching between say 2 Twitter accounts on a Windows 7 web Twitter software? 1/14/12.
  • the iPhone-only Tweetie, and turned it into this multi-platform must-have.

Meaning the iPhone-only Tweetie app is the best for Twitter use of all available for smart phones?  (I am looking for the best software to use Twitter on Windows 7).
  • Twitter’s quality varies wildly across platforms. It soars on the iPhone, cruises along nicely on the iPad, and is about as pretty as a plane crash on Android

So, if I want to get a first smart phone, and use Twitter, iPhone is recommended? (I have Verizon Wireless).

--I am looking for a good Twitter software for PC Windows7 desktop.  This article Twitter apps review 11/1/11: 1st gen of 3rd-party Twitter clients for mobile devices made the service take off.  Twitter bought iPhone-only Tweetie, and turned it into this multi-platform must-have.

Goodies - Buffer - 1 views

There is a new site I'm seeing called Buffer. It lets you find things and put them into your "buffer" - another autotweeting type service. You can use with facebook but beware that often Facebook makes things not typed "live" into facebook have a lower priority and not put them on homestreams.

Biomimetic Signaling in Twitter | MakerLab Blog - 0 views

  •
There's an emerging degree of swarming, coordination, just in time planning, that makes a cohesive group appear to exist out of a series of autonomous individuals. I've personally witnessed people get rides from airports at midnight after the transit stopped, people collectively swarm to try track down a stolen bicycle, venue changes for meetings where nobody misses a beat, random get-togethers facilitated by a real time awareness. There is a kind of real time responsiveness not present with services such as email, the telephone, the classifieds or even newspapers and television mass media.

Twitter relaunches name search, still no tweet search on site - NYTimes.com - 0 views

  • The micro-messaging service Twitter has taken the slow time during the holiday to bring back a feature that like so many, went away when the site was having performance issues during the earlier parts of this year: People search.
  • It seems like Twitter Search is such a useful and powerful feature of the service that it should be front and center on the main site, not buried away.
