Is Google indexing Twitter search?

Google has started ranking Twitter search pages for topics (think hashtag-style words) higher, often making the front page for certain queries. This is despite the fact that Twitter blocks Google's spider from indexing search result pages. Which begs the question, how is Google determining that these Twitter topics merit a high weight?

The new Twitter iOS app and Android app works on the discover feature and search. Discover is supposed to show you more about what retweets you've gotten,etc. I've found it easier to see this information in hootsuite and for scheduling I use buffer. Twitter is amazing, but I rarely go to the site itself on my phone or computer. I have a feeling this is strategic for Twitter as they look to monetize. Update and check it out.

Twitter's default search only goes back a week-if that-and often chokes on multiple keyword searches. Fortunately, there ARE many great alternatives, and I've included a chart comparing the nine top tweet search engines below. JungleBot is a 'Twitter Bot' that allows users to query Amazon.com without leaving the comfort of the Twitter command line. Right now, JungleBot allows users to search for books, DVDs, and music by sending a direct message to JungleBot.

I am floored to find 617 lesson plans using Twitter on the TES site. Some talk about social networks and society, advertising, etc. and others are recommendations for teachers, however, Twitter is increasingly becoming PART Of lessons and what we do. I think that eventually we'll have to make friends with social media in education just as we did with email.

If your not using this tool, your missing the boat. Since reversing the company's strategy away from short video clips and more toward the world of status updates, Loic Le Meur and the Seesmic team have forged ahead in working to deliver a strong alternative to TweetDeck, letting Twitter and Facebook users update their status, view friends' updates and manage their social networking accounts from their desktop - complete with multiple account support, multiple columns, and all the standard features you would expect, from profile viewing to direct messages and search. Yesterday, at the TechCrunch CrunchUp event, Loic demonstrated not just a new version of Seesmic Desktop, but also a Web version that operates completely in the browser. And guess what? It's good - easily the best Web interface I've seen for Twitter yet.

Great post about the power of Twitter. It is almost so commonplace as to be trite. But it isn't trite. It is a very real part of a good teacher's PLN. Better than a search engine, the people engine of a giving, helpful group of twitters. But remember that in order to Tweet and receive, you also have to share and receive. You get back far more than you give but you should give not just ask. In short, be there for your tweeps and your tweeps will be there for you.
