    It was reported that five leading Japanese copper semis fabricators posted better results for April-December 2010, partly attributed to higher copper prices and a very hot summer. However, profitability in October-December was lower because of slower demand from the automotive and electronics industries as well as inventory adjustment by the end-users.

Japan - Wire and cable manufacturers announce results for FY2010-2011 - 0 views

    Five major Japanese wire and cable producers recently announced financial results for FY2010-2011, all but one of which showed positive signs of growth in profitability. Sumitomo Electric Ltd. and Furukawa Electric Co.'s profits rose while Showa Cable Systems Co. returned to positive net profit. Hitachi Cable Ltd. suffered losses, although they decreased y-o-y. Fujikura Ltd. saw its profits decrease. The results of all companies were said to have been constrained by weak demand from the construction sector, which has not fully recovered. However, those companies producing automotive wiring harnesses benefited from strong auto demand.

Japanese copper output to fall 21% in H1 2011/2012 - 0 views

  • Copper output in Japan, the world's No.2 consumer of the metal, will plunge 21 percent in the April-September first-half of this financial year from the same period last year due to damage to plants from the March 11 earthquake. A three-month suspension of the 300,000 tonnes a year Onahama plant in Fukushima, owned jointly by Mitsubishi Materials  , Dowa and Furukawa , dealt the sector a major blow.
