Bo Patel is the new chief operating officer of Coury Hospitality, a Dallas-based hospitality management firm that recently added nine hotel management agreements in California. He will oversee the firm's West Coast growth, operations, and brand partnerships, focusing on the Concert Hospitality division, which manages branded full- and select-service hotels. Previously, Patel led a team managing a family office real estate portfolio worth more than $1 billion, Coury Holdings, the parent company of Coury Hospitality, said in a statement. "Bo's deep expertise and strong West Coast relationships make him the ideal leader for our California expansion," said Paul Coury, Coury Holdings' founder and CEO. PEACHTREE GROUP, THE newly formed affiliate of Peachtree Hotel Group created last week to handle its real estate investments, is launching its first initiative, the 1031 Exchange Delaware Statutory Trust program. The company also selected Tim Witt as president over the new program. A DST is a single-purpose entity qualified for Section 1031 real estate exchanges, according to Peachtree. It allows investors to exchange replacement properties without incurring taxable gain on the sale of previously owned assets. Peachtree's 1031 Exchange DST program will invest in institutional-grade hotels in the U.S. through Peachtree Hospitality Management, another division of Peachtree, is expected to operate any properties acquired as part of the exchange. "As we expand our array of high-quality, diversified investment strategies, we wanted to create 1031 Exchange DSTs to provide tax deferral strategies in the hospitality sector," said Greg Friedman, Peachtree's CEO and managing principal. "We anticipate significant growth and appreciation in the hospitality sector, driving values above pre-pandemic levels. Also, real estate offers an excellent alternative investment channel for those seeking an inflation hedge. We strongly believe hospitality is the most investable asset in the market today, and we anticipate being able to achieve outsized returns."

VISION HOSPITALITY GROUP, led by Mitch Patel as president and CEO, recently broke ground on a dual-branded Home2 Suites and Tru by Hilton in Cleveland, Tennessee. The upcoming development, slated for completion in mid to late 2025, will comprise a combined total of 140 keys across five stories. The project will include 768 square feet of flexible meeting space and an outdoor pool, Vision Hospitality said in a statement. "We are thrilled to continue to strengthen our partnership with Hilton by expanding our portfolio with the addition of these two thriving brands and grow in a city that means so much to us," said Patel. VISION HOSPITALITY GROUP will celebrate its 25th anniversary in April. The company, led by Mitch Patel as president and CEO, is now making plans for the next quarter century. Founded in 1997, Vision Hospitality began with a Homewood Suites by Hilton, Chattanooga/Hamilton Place Patel developed in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where the company is still headquartered. Then, as the U.S. economy struggled to overcome the 9/11 attacks of 2001, Patel went on to develop 10 more hotels. "Here, VHG learned agility and how to pivot, gaining a deeper understanding of how to successfully adapt to the ebb and flow of the hospitality and financial industries," the company said in a statement. Peachtree Group's hospitality management division was recently selected to manage the Merrill Hotel, Muscatine in Iowa. The hotel has 122 guest rooms, 13,000 square feet of meeting and event space, a heated indoor saltwater pool, and a fitness center, Peachtree said in a statement. "We're truly delighted to have been chosen by Jim and Rebecca Howe to be the hotel's management operator," said Patrick Short, Peachtree's president for hospitality management. "The Howe family embodies a steadfast dedication to unparalleled hospitality experiences. The hotel was opened in March 2018 along the Mississippi River in downtown Muscatine and is located near cities like Davenport and Bettendorf in Iowa, and Rock Island and Moline/East Moline in Illinois, the statement said.

Dorraine Lallani, senior director of asset management at Westmont Hospitality Group, and Joseph Fan, president of Brighton Management, will receive a lifetime achievement award from the California Lodging Investment Conference. They will be honored at the Westin Long Beach on March 5 to 6. Lallani, former senior vice president at Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels, specializes in hotel acquisitions, due diligence, franchise relations and asset dispositions. Fan founded Brighton Management in 1994, serving Los Angeles, San Diego and Northern California, CLIC said in a statement. "Dorraine and Joseph have already made lasting impressions in the California hospitality industry, and we look forward to their continued contributions," said Craig Sullivan, CLIC's founder and president. "From managing more than 500 hotels worldwide for Westmont Hospitality to founding a leading property management firm in Greater Los Angeles, both have forged respected careers in California."

Pensions & Investments magazine included Noble Investment Group, led by CEO Mit Shah, in its "2024 Best Places to Work in Money Management" awards by for the second consecutive year, recognizing its focus on collaboration and inclusivity. The annual program, now in its 13th year, identifies top employers in the money management industry, P&I said in a statement. Shah expressed honor in being named to the list. Furthermore, independent hoteliers are focusing on 2025 as the "year of optimizing performance." Cloudbeds' 2025 State of Independent Lodging Report provides a data-driven analysis of the global independent lodging segment, highlighting key trends across often-overlooked property types. Chad Goodnough is now senior vice president of sales, strategy, and innovation at Stonebridge Cos. In this role, he will drive revenue, market share and RevPAR growth for Stonebridge's portfolio through sales strategies. He joins from HRI Hospitality, where he was senior vice president of sales and marketing, Stonebridge said in a statement. "Chad's expertise in the hospitality industry and ability to drive results in competitive markets make him a strong fit," said Rob Smith, Stonebridge's CEO and president. 3H GROUP, LED by Hiren Desai as president and CEO, recently acquired the Hyatt Place Tampa Airport/Westshore in Tampa, Florida. LBA Hospitality will manage the hotel's operations. The acquisition of the Hyatt Place Tampa Airport is part of a broader strategic initiative for LBA and 3H, which have a strong pipeline of hotels in development, the companies said in a statement. "Our alliance with LBA Hospitality is built on a foundation of excellence and integrity. As we expand our hotel portfolio, collaborations like this enable us to redefine industry standards," said Desai.

TownePlace Suites Eugene is now open in Eugene, Oregon. The hotel is owned by BHG Hospitality, based in Georgia, and led by Buggsi Patel, with operation by InterMountain Management from Louisiana. "As an Oregon business owner, we are proud to expand our portfolio in Eugene, home to the University of Oregon and the Oregon Ducks, the birthplace of Nike and a perfect base to explore the great outdoors," said Patel. THE HOSPITALITY SALES and Marketing Association International Global recently launched its Certified Hotel Sales Leader certification program, focusing on current sales and commercial principles, practices, and strategies. The certification emphasizes hospitality sales leaders' abilities in team leadership, commercial acumen, and implementing effective hotel sales practices to boost revenue, among other key skills, HSMAI said in a statement. "We are very excited to add the CHSL certification to HSMAI's distinguished family of commercial certifications, including the CRME, CHDM, CRMA and CHBA," said Robert Gilbert, HSMAI's president and CEO. Lee Palaschak is the new executive vice president of operations at Stonebridge Cos. He will oversee the company's operations from a new office in Dallas and report to CEO Rob Smith. Denver-based Stonebridge is led by Founder and Chairman Navin Dimond. "Lee shares our vision of operational excellence and delivering value to ownership and brings strong relationships with our brand partners," said Smith. "We are confident he will build on the infrastructure we have in place and continue to elevate Stonebridge as the market leader for third-party management contracts." Palaschak has 35 years of operational experience. Before joining Stonebridge, he was senior vice president at Remington Hospitality, managing operations for a\ portfolio of full-service and select-service brands, luxury and lifestyle properties. He also held senior roles at Aimbridge Hospitality, Winegardner & Hammons, and Commonwealth Hotels.

Five Star Group affiliates, Five Star Hospitality Management and Dream Capital, recently named Justin Patel senior associate, investments and asset management and Kimberly Rowell to executive vice president. Patel was previously a senior asset management analyst at Peachtree Group while Rowell joined in February 2023. Dalton, Georgia-based Five Star Group, founded by Naren Patel in 1990, announced the changes. At Peachtree Group, Patel managed more than 20 hotels nationwide and assisting in 12 dispositions. Prior to Peachtree, he was asset manager at 33 Degrees, a commercial real estate firm. "Justin takes an insightful approach to project management, making him an invaluable member of the Dream Capital team as we continue to provide our investors with the opportunity to invest in both credit and equity investments in various asset classes in commercial real estate," said Ankit Govan, Dream Capital's managing principal and co-founder. BRITISH INDIAN HOTELIER Joginder Sanger, 82, passed away in London on Friday night after being hospitalized following a stroke, Eastern Eye newsweekly reported. Jalandhar-born Sanger started in the UK with a travel agency and an exclusive Air India contract before establishing London hotels, including the Washington Mayfair, Courthouse Hotels in Soho and Shoreditch, as well as the Bentley in Kensington. His hotels have hosted Indian celebrities, politicians, former prime ministers and Bollywood stars, Eastern Eye reported. "He was a dear friend of mine since the 1950s; I will miss him terribly," NRI industrialist Lord Swraj Paul, 94, was quoted as saying in the report. "Like me, Joginder was also born in Jalandhar, and we shared so many experiences together. He will be missed by the Indian community in Britain, to which he made immense contributions."

Melissa Ross Smith is now chief operating officer for Peachtree Group. She will be responsible for the overall performance, strategy and organizational development of Peachtree and its operating businesses. Before joining Peachtree, Smith held several high-level positions at organizations. Most recently, Smith was managing director of OS National, where she managed more than 250 professionals and was responsible for evaluating performance management systems and devising improvements to strengthen controls and optimize results, Peachtree said in a statement. "As Peachtree continues to evolve, improving our foundational processes is imperative to the future growth of our business," said Greg Friedman, managing principal and CEO of Peachtree Group. "Melissa is an excellent complement to our team as she has an exceptional blend of leadership, vision and execution needed to be Peachtree's COO." The SureStay Plus Hotel by Best Western Odessa in Odessa, Texas, is now open. It is owned by Shivbkrishna LLC led by Manish Bhakta. The 110-room hotel is near the Odessa Meteor Crater, the second largest meteor crater in the U.S., the Parker House Ranching Museum and Monahans Sandhills State Park. Amenities include a fitness center, indoor pool and two different spaces for meetings and events. A TOTAL OF 8,000 attendees gathered at the Los Angeles Convention Center for the 2023 AAHOA Convention & Trade Show saw more than 20 education sessions, 500 exhibiting companies, keynote speakers and four networking events, including the Welcome Reception at the world-famous LA Coliseum. The conference broke various records from AAHOA's 34-year history, AAHOA said in a statement. AAHOACON23 culminated in a gala event in the form of AAHOA Awards, celebrating excellence in the field of hospitality. However, several large hotel companies boycotted AAHOACON23 over AAHOA's support for franchising reform. "With a record level of booth sales for the trade show, it was the largest trade show in AAHOA's 34-year history, and a 22 percent increase over 2022," AAHOA said. "There were nearly 520 total exhibiting companies, the second largest exhibitor total in AAHOACON history," it said. Now past AAHOA Chairman Neal Patel officially turned over the reins to his successor, Florida hotelier Bharat Patel. According to AAHOA, the AAHOACON23 Trade Show was sold out, and a wait list was created - the first time ever in AAHOA history. The event also generated a very strong number of first-time exhibitors, 167, which is the second-largest number of first-time exhibitors in AAHOA history, AAHOA said. "The exhibit sales team achieved a new record in exhibit booth sales for AAHOACON24. A total of 170 exhibitors have rebooked and will return for AAHOACON24 in Orlando next year. This number represents more than 40 percent of the show floor space and 100 percent of all exhibiting hotel brands rebooked for AAHOACON24," the statement added.
