COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE lender Stonehill is ranked as the 10th largest U.S. commercial real estate hotel lender by origination volume based on the 2021 Mortgage Bankers Association loan origination rankings. The ranking comes after the company originated $822 million in loans across 30 transactions in 2021 with an average transaction size of $27.4 million. Stonehill is a subsidiary of Atlanta-based Peachtree Hotel Group, led by Jatin Desai and Mitul Patel, who are principals of Stonehill and Stonehill PACE, as well as members of the Stonehill's investment committee. MBA's annual originations rankings report is a comprehensive set of listings of 149 commercial/multifamily mortgage originators, their 2021 volumes, and their different roles. "We are honored to be ranked in the MBA's leading industry list," said Mat Crosswy, Stonehill's president and managing principal. "Our top-ten position is a testament to our commitment to understanding our sponsors' business plans and accomplishing the transactions on their financial deadlines. STONEHILL, A COMMERCIAL real estate direct lender and Peachtree Group affiliate, is now ranked as the 8th largest U.S. commercial real estate hotel lender by the Mortgage Bankers Association's 2022 loan originations rankings, a two-spot increase from its 2021 ranking. Stonehill deployed $1.2 billion in real estate investment, with $813 million for hotels in 2022, the company said in a statement. Meanwhile, Stonehill is also ranked as the 16th largest U.S. commercial real estate retail lender by MBA, having deployed $163 million in 2022, the statement added. "Our performance is a testament to our commitment to understanding our sponsors' business plans and accomplishing the transactions by having stable capital despite market turbulence," said Mat Crosswy, Stonehill's president and managing principal. Stonehill expanded its commercial lending business to originate and make investments across all real estate sectors by forming Stonehill CRE in 2022. This CRE group focuses on heavy transitional assets and sectors of the credit market that are traditionally undersupplied, the statement further said.

AS THE LABOR shortage continues, hotels are offering more incentives to attract new employees, according to a survey by the American Hotel & Lodging Association. They include higher wages, more benefits and greater scheduling flexibility. AHLA's Front Desk Feedback survey of more than 500 hoteliers, conducted Jan. 10 to 17, found that 79 percent of responding hotels were experiencing staffing shortages. Also, 71 percent of respondents are increasing wages, 64 percent are offering greater flexibility with hours and 33 percent are expanding benefits. Despite that, 81 percent said they are still unable to fill open positions. Also, 79 percent of respondents are experiencing a staffing shortage, severely so for 22 percent. The most critical staffing need is housekeeping, with 43 percent ranking it as their top hiring need. At the same time, in September, 87 percent of respondents said they were short staffed, 36 percent severely, with 43 percent ranking housekeeping as their top hiring need at the time. Respondents are attempting to fill an average of seven positions per property, down from 10 vacancies per property in September. "Recruiting enough workers continues to be the top challenge for many hoteliers, and this is leading to historic career opportunities for hotel employees," said Chip Rogers, AHLA president and CEO.

HILTON HOTELS & RESORTS retained its title as the world's most valuable hotel brand for the ninth consecutive year, while Hyatt Hotels Corp. secured the second spot again, according to the latest data from Brand Finance. Meanwhile, India's Taj Hotels is the world's second-fastest-growing brand, primarily due to revenue growth and improved brand strength. Hilton's brand value is estimated at $11.6 billion in the Brand Finance Global 500 2024 ranking. Hyatt holds a value of $6 billion, and Taj increased its brand value by 45 percent to $545 million, Brand Finance said in a statement. "Many top hotel brands have struggled to grow their brand value as robustly as in the years leading up to 2020, and the Brand Finance Hotels 2024 ranking shows that these challenges are ongoing as the industry recovers," said Henry Farr, Brand Finance's associate director. "Despite an uptick in travel and hotel demand, the actual growth hasn't matched expectations, resulting in slight declines or minimal brand value growth for the world's leading hotel brands."
