NEXGEN HOTELS HAS acquired the SpringHill Suites by Marriott Chicago Bolingbrook in Chicago. The company, led by Chris Patel as principal, plans to fully renovate the hotel. "When renovations are completed, we expect the hotel to appeal to travelers coming to the Chicago area seeking a well-known brand with modern amenities," Patel said.

THE U.S. DEPARTMENT of Justice will appeal the recent court ruling that overturned a federal mask mandate on public transportation. In response, the U.S. Travel Association said that the mandate is simply out of step with the current public health landscape. Last week, U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle in Tampa ruled that the CDC had overstepped its authority in issuing the mask mandate. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention asked the DOJ to appeal the ruling. In a statement on April 20, the CDC said that an order requiring masking in the indoor transportation corridor remains necessary for the public health. CDC will continue to monitor public health conditions to determine whether such an order remains necessary, it added.

Also nearby are Dobbins Air Reserve Base, the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History and the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. THE RECENTLY RENOVATED Four Points by Sheraton Cleveland Airport in Cleveland, Ohio, is the latest acquisition by NexGen Hotels. It is the 11th property in the portfolio for NexGen, led by Chris Patel as principal. The 147-room Four Points is two miles from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. It also is near Quicken Loans Arena, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Cleveland Clinic Medical Center. Amenities at the 6-story hotel include 7,500 square feet of meeting space and a heated indoor swimming pool. It also hosts the brand's Best Brews program at its onsite restaurant, The Hub Bar & Grill. "As the company's newest property, the hotel plays a significant part of our continued growth strategy," Patel said.

The Radisson Hotel Grand Rapids Riverfront is open in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was developed by GR Hospitality of Jenison, Michigan. The 162-room hotel overlooks the Grand River and is near the DeltaPlex Arena and Conference Center and the Gerald R. Ford International Airport. Hotel amenities include a heated indoor pool and hot tub, its onsite restaurant River Rock Restaurant & Lounge and a ballroom that can accommodate up to 180 guests. "As a new era of travel is on the horizon, our hotel is perfectly positioned to provide all our guests a great economic option when looking for an upscale stay," said Suresh Patel, CHO and director of operations at GR Hospitality.

The TownePlace Suites by Marriott Tuscaloosa University Area is now open in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It is owned by Chattanooga, Tennessee-based Vision Hospitality Group, led by Mitch Patel as president and CEO. The 93-suite hotel is near the University of Alabama, the Alabama Museum of Natural History, Paul W. Bryant Museum, and Tuscaloosa Amphitheater. Amenities include an indoor saltwater pool and a fitness center. It is pet friendly. "As the top sports destination in the state, over half a million visitors pass through Tuscaloosa every year," Patel said. The Residence Inn by Marriott Richmond West is open in Midlothian, Virginia. It is owned by Shamin Hotels, led by CEO Neil Amin in Chester, Virginia. The 111-suite extended=stay hotel is near Johnston-Willis Hospital and 20 minutes from downtown Richmond. Other nearby attractions are Richmond Ice Zone, Huguenot Park, Chesterfield Towne Center and River City Sportsplex. The pet-friendly hotel's amenities include a meeting room, an indoor swimming pool and a fitness center.
