WHITESTONE CAPITAL RECENTLY partnered with PJD Capital to purchase the 152-room Holiday Inn East Mountain in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, marking the first joint venture between the two real estate companies. Whitestone Capital, a division of Whitestone Companies, is led by CEO Jay Batra, while PJD Capital is headed by CEO Prakash Datwani. The Holiday Inn East Mountain features 152 guestrooms and more than 6,000 square feet of event space, the companies said in a joint statement. "We are excited about our new partnership with PJD Capital to reposition this property into a product the Wilkes Barre community has been craving," said Batra. "We expect the transformation to happen in two phases, with the first phase starting later this year. The property will be converted to a very select class of DoubleTree Hotels. A DoubleTree in name, driven by the power of Hilton, but not a typical DoubleTree. This property will feel more like a soft brand with design centered around a community-focused, light resort feel."

G6 HOSPITALITY'S MOTEL 6 partnered with Sony Pictures Entertainment to launch a marketing campaign centered around its upcoming animated film "Garfield," scheduled to premiere on May 24. Motel 6 appointed the movie's central character, Garfield, an orange housecat, as its chief pet officer to assist guests traveling with pets. As part of the campaign, guests can stay in a Garfield Movie-themed room in Hollywood, as well as 10 other Motel 6 locations across the nation, from May 21 until mid-June, Motel 6 said in a statement. "Garfield is well-known for his appreciation of naps, so he's an expert when it comes to a comfortable night's rest," said Adam Cannon, G6 Hospitality's chief brand officer. "Motel 6 has been welcoming pets for free for more than 60 years and is one of the top reasons guests stay with us. Garfield will help take our love of our four-legged friends to the next level."

BPR PROPERTIES HAS selected LBA Hospitality to assume full management responsibilities for its complete portfolio of hotels. The company's 16 hotels are already managed by the Alabama-based hospitality management firm, with six properties added in the last three months. BPR is led by Birju Patel as president and CEO Bhupen Patel. "Making the decision to transition to third-party management was not an easy one," said Bhupen Patel. SureStay Plus by Best Western Corydon is now open in Corydon, Indiana. Manish Kumar is its general manager. The newly renovated 76-room hotel has a business center, and 24-hour fitness facilities. It will open an outdoor pool later this year, BWH Hotels said in a statement. "We are proud to welcome travelers to the SureStay Plus by Best Western Corydon and cannot wait for them to experience the SureStay Hotels difference," said Dave Panas, SureStay's managing director of operations. "Guests will appreciate having all the necessities for a comfortable stay - including a complimentary hot breakfast each day - and the warm service of the hotel's caring team." The property is located near Squire Boone Caverns, Marengo Cave (a U.S. National Landmark), Turtle Run Winery, Corydon Capital State Historic Site, Hayswood Nature Reserve, and the Red Barn Antique Mall, the statement added.

UNITY WAS THE theme at Sonesta International Hotels' inaugural conference in Las Vegas. Sonesta essentially completed its integration with Red Lion Hotels Corp. with the announcement of a unified loyalty program, Sonesta Travel Pass, and combined website. Approximately 1,300 attendees, including franchisees, general managers of Sonesta's corporate owned properties and employees, came to the conference and trade show at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas. Along with keynote speakers and entertainment, the conference provided updates on the company's status. "My team and I have been looking forward to this moment for months to finally be with you, to talk with you, to listen to you and your guests and to show off a little to you," said John Murray, executive vice president for The RMR Group that owns Sonesta.
