U.S. HOTEL PERFORMANCE improved in the final week of 2022 compared to the week before due to favorable side of a holiday calendar shift, according to STR. When compared to the same period in 2019 performance also increased in the last week of December. According to STR, the comparable week in 2019 covered Dec. 29 to Jan. 4. Occupancy was 54.2 percent for the week ending Dec. 31, up from 43.9 percent the week before and increased 10.4 percent from 2019. ADR was $167.21 during the week, a steep increase from $132.29 the week before and up 21.7 percent from three years ago. RevPAR reached $90.63 in the final week of December, rose from $58.04 the week before and up 34.3 percent from 2019.

U.S. HOTEL PERFORMANCE dropped in the first week of January from the prior week, although year-over-year comparisons showed improvement, according to CoStar. Key metrics, including occupancy, ADR, and RevPAR, all declined at the start of the New Year compared to the previous week. Occupancy was 46.8 percent for the week ending Jan. 6, down from the previous week's 50.1 percent and reflecting a 0.7 percent year-over-year decrease. ADR fell to $152.17, compared to the prior week's $163.58, showing a 7.2 percent increase from the previous year. RevPAR decreased to $71.28 from the prior week's $82.1, but rose 6.4 percent from the corresponding period in 2023. Among the top 25 markets, New Orleans saw the largest year-over-year increases in each of the three performance metrics. Its occupancy was up 36.5 percent to 61.2 percent, ADR was up 43.5 percent to $211.90 and RevPAR rose 95.9 percent to $129.62. The market's performance was boosted by the Sugar Bowl, FAN EXPO New Orleans and multiple Mardi Gras parades.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING points are becoming a standard amenity at hotels, akin to the rise of Wi-Fi in the early 2000s. Benefits for the hotel owners and franchisers can include additional revenue, carbon credits as well as attracting guests from the growing number of electric vehicle drivers. Their franchisees have begun incorporating EV charging infrastructures into their properties. "We've heard from our owners that offering EV charging solutions is increasingly influential for guests when choosing hotels," said Brian McGuiness, IHG's senior vice president of global guest experience. "This is backed by our observation of guests using EVC filters on the IHG One Rewards mobile app and website. ADR increased to $160.96 from $147.99 the prior week, marking a 6.8 percent rise compared to the previous year. RevPAR also increased to $90.4 from $81.69 the prior week, reflecting a 3.9 percent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2023. Among the top 25 markets, Oahu Island saw the largest year-over-year increases, with occupancy rising 8 percent to 82.9 percent.

Among the top 25 markets, San Francisco recorded the highest year-over-year increases: occupancy rose 14.8 percent to 71.1 percent, ADR increased 11.3 percent to $226.70, and RevPAR grew 30.3 percent to $179.97. The market's performance was boosted by the Data + AI Summit.

ADR increased to $160.90 from $150.87, showing a 1.8 percent rise compared to last year. RevPAR increased to $111.26 from the previous week's $93.50, marking a 1.7 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023. Among the top 25 markets, Houston saw the highest year-over-year increases in occupancy, rising 14.8 percent to 71.1 percent, and in RevPAR, increasing 19.3 percent to $85.20. New York City recorded the largest increase in ADR, rising 9.1 percent to $358.25.
