INDIA-BASED ORAVEL STAYS, the parent company of OYO, is reportedly in talks to raise $200 million in a primary funding round, according to Business Standard. The funds are expected to support OYO's potential acquisition of G6 Hospitality, which owns the budget Motel 6 and Studio 6 chains in the U.S. Oravel Stays aims for a valuation between $4.5 billion and $5 billion, up from its previous $2.4 billion valuation, though still below its earlier $10 billion target. The company is in discussions with offshore institutional and private Indian investors to secure the funding, Business Standard reported. Among the private investors involved are InCred Wealth, J&A Partners, the Mankind Pharma family office, and ASK Financial Holdings, all of whom previously valued OYO at $2.4 billion. OYO, backed by SoftBank, has not commented on the matter.

BUSINESS CONTINUED TO improve in the second week of April for U.S. hotels, according to STR. Occupancy, ADR and RevPAR all rose on a weekly basis, and the last two were up compared to the same time in 2019. Occupancy was 66.4 percent for the week ending April 9, up from 64.1 percent the week before but down 4.7 percent from 2019. ADR was $150.45 for the week, up from $145.74 the previous week and up 10.6 percent from 2019. RevPAR reached $99.93, a rise from $93.48 weekly and up 5.4 percent from three years ago. Among STR's top 25 markets, Tampa saw the highest occupancy increase over 2019, up 6.2 percent to 84 percent. Minneapolis had the largest occupancy decrease from three years ago, down 29.5 percent to 51.4 percent.

REFLECTING THE NORMAL ebb and flow of spring break season, U.S. hotel performance has decreased in the fourth week of March from the week before, according to STR. Chicago and Phoenix saw rises in occupancy. Occupancy was 64.9 percent for the week ending March 25, down from 67.6 percent the week before and 0.6 percent down than the comparable week in 2002 and 6.3 percent down the comparable week in 2019. ADR was $158.61, down from $167.04 the week before, up 4.7 percent from last year and up 19.5 percent from 2019. RevPAR stood at $102.98 in the last week, down from $112.89 the week before and increased 4.1 percent and 12 percent against the same month in 2022 and 2019. Among the top 25 markets, Chicago saw the highest year-over-year increase in occupancy in the fourth week of the month, up 12.2 percent to 63.4 percent, while Phoenix witnessed the only occupancy lift over 2019, up 3.1 percent to 81.5 percent. Washington, D.C., reported the most substantial ADR, up 20.9 percent to $194.18, while RevPAR increased 33.4 percent to $139.83 year-over-year. Las Vegas reported the highest growths in the measuring of ADR, up 42.7 percent to $187.21, and RevPAR, which increased 31.5 percent to $148.86 percent, against 2019.

U.S. HOTEL PERFORMANCE declined in the first week of October compared to the previous week due to Rosh Hashanah, according to CoStar. Year-over-year comparisons also decreased, with key metrics-occupancy, RevPAR, and ADR-all falling from the prior week. Occupancy fell to 65.6 percent for the week ending Oct. 5, down from 69.4 percent the previous week, reflecting a 3.4 percent year-over-year decrease. ADR decreased to $156.25 from $159.63 the prior week, indicating a 4.4 percent decline compared to last year. RevPAR dropped to $102.44, down from $110.84 the previous week, marking a 7.7 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2023. Among the top 25 markets, Tampa saw the highest year-over-year occupancy increase at 81.3 percent, up 24.1 percent, while RevPAR rose 22.1 percent to $125.39. As is common after natural disasters, the market's hotel performance was boosted by displacement demand from Hurricane Helene.

MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL REPORTED 4.9 percent year-over-year global RevPAR growth in the second quarter of 2024, with U.S. and Canada RevPAR rising 3.9 percent and international RevPAR increasing 7.4 percent. The company's net income grew to $772 million from $726 million a year ago, Marriott said in a statement. "Marriott reported strong second quarter results, with net rooms up 6 percent year-over-year and worldwide RevPAR growth of nearly 5 percent, as consumers continued to prioritize travel," said Anthony Capuano, Marriott International's president and CEO. "International RevPAR increased more than 7 percent, with Asia-Pacific excluding China leading the way, posting an impressive 13 percent RevPAR increase from the year-ago quarter." RevPAR for the U.S. and Canada grew nearly 4 percent during the quarter, Capuano said, and all customer segments grew versus the prior year quarter.
