Youtego Private Beta - Welcome to Youtego - 1 views

shared by yc c on 29 Sep 09 - Cached

What is this?? says: Youtego is a new visual tool for self-visualization in the Internet. We believe in the concept of "recognize yourself to recognize the world around you". This patented concept of self-visualization represents what you believe, feel, know, taught or capable of doing. That concept represents you. The process of self-visualization in Youtego is a combination of semantics (word, phrase) and its visual representation (picture, photo), that you define and select-crop all by yourself. Ultimately, you get the combination or matrix of visual objects that you personally defined and visualized. That combination is younique, because you are younique! However the elements of that matrix (we call them tego-s) may match with people's tego-s anywhere in the world. As a result, you start matching with people by elements (tego-s) that you defined and start experiencing this natural feeling that we all, humans possess - discovering the world of people, the world of self-similarities, the world of emotions around you. Aren't we doing that everyday all our life?

Visualizing Yahoo! Mail - 4 views

  •
Hundreds of thousands of emails are sent every second, and yet, you wouldn't really know it because there aren't public-facing streams like that of Twitter. Outside your own inbox, how much email is there exactly? Yahoo, in collaboration with information visualization firm Periscopic, shows you how much email they process in real-time with this interactive feature. The initial view is a world map, and scaled bubbles represent how many emails were currently sent. Hover over continents for user geographic distribution and gigabytes sent. There's also trending topics from anonymized subject headers via streamgraph. The view is interesting as you can click on sections so that the surrounding streams split, so you get a sense of distribution along with details per keyword. The keyword data, however, isn't all that interesting for the most part. You'll see keywords such as online, free, and nights. Not too meaningful. There are a few exceptions though like Oprah and wars. There is also an option to include spam keywords with equally generic terms. Finally, if you go back to the map and keep on clicking, you eventually get to some fun facts about email, such as there are over sextillion ways to spell Viagra. All in all, it's a comprehensive view of how much email Yahoo handles that's fun to poke around. Turn on your speakers for playful sound effects. via http://flowingdata.com/2011/10/13/visualizing-yahoo-email-processing-in-real-time/

provides immediate access to facts. It visualizes facts as well as relationships between facts. You can also collect, process and publish bits of information. Currently processes the English and German Wikipedia as well as MEDLINE/PubMed. \n\nOur approach is inspired by current research results from cognitive science, computational linguistics and neurobiology. We aim at radically improving the way users interact with knowledge and information online. Recent studies show that human thought processes have a strong visual component and that the brain can process images significantly faster than textual information. We are convinced that it is time for innovative, interactive, visual methods of working with and discovering facts and information instead of wading through ever longer lists of documents and search results. \n

Musicmap | The Genealogy and History of Popular Music Genres - 5 views

  •
Musicmap attempts to provide the ultimate genealogy of popular music genres, including their relations and history. It is the result of more than seven years of research with over 200 listed sources and cross examination of many other visual genealogies. Its aim is to focus on the delicate balance between comprehensibility, accuracy and accessibility. In other words: the ideal genealogy is not only complete and correct, but also easy to understand despite its complexity. This is a utopian balance that can never be achieved but only approached. By choosing the right amount of genres, determining forms of hierarchy and analogy and ordering everything in a logical but authentic manner, a satisfactory balance can be obtained. Said balance is always the main subject of discussion in music genre genealogies and the capital reason why an absolute visual reference has been absent thus far (and probably always will be). Musicmap is a platform in search for the perfect balance of popular music genres to provide a powerful tool for educational means or a complementary framework in the field of music metadata and automatic taxonomy.
